SOS battles (where the pokemon calls for help) may be helpful too as the pokemon call up others that can normally be encountered there (aside from occasions where they call up pokemon that can only be encountered via SOS), so you could get multiple chances off of one ripple fishing battle.

I'm actually surprised that you can see so many good mons so early in the game: Slowpokes on Route 1 (I've caught a Modest Slowpoke, I would consider using her but I have enough weak mons to Knock Off AND Leech Life already...^^U), Abras and Magnemites on the first city,Growlithes on Route 2, Rufflets and Bagons on Route 3... At this rate making a team will be more difficult than what I had in mind.

The game seems to be looking good so far (I'm still salty about how hard and tedious is to get a shiny starter, I had to give up after soft resetting the game for a few hours in order to get a shiny Rowlett...¬¬) but I've hardly seen anything yet in order to give a solid two cents about it now... Thankfully I was able to remove that hat from my female MC's head, she looks so adorable now ^^

By the way... When did Barry get a tan (Hau is totally a tanned Barry)?

.P.S.: Gen VII bug mon look surprisingly viable (and more with that massive boost Leech Life got), it kind of reminds me of Gen V in that regard (with mons like Volcarona, Escavalier, Scolipede, Galvantula... it could easily be referred as the Bug gen).
And Kaijin you are the "Perentie" of this place, IMO.

I've never filled up the Pokedex myself, because every year they add more Pokémon and I gave up. X_X I just catch what is convenient at the time or useful.

I'll get a 3rd Meloetta next month, and hopefully a plush of her!

Checked out the first episode of anime for educational purposes, it was better than I expected. I might continue watching it if there is no Team Rocket (sooooooooooooo tired of them after all these days). I haven't watched a Pokémon anime since..forever though I did see a few of the movies.

As long that there's a Pikachu they're bound to appear... so don't get your hopes up on that.
As for anime, check out the Generations short episodes. With a couple or three exceptions they're surprisingly decent.

Team Rocket is there.
Spoiler: show
And as usual these days they don't bring any Pokemon aside from Meowth and Wobbofett and Jessie catches a Pokemon while James has nothing.

Blah, well, Lillie will make watching it worth it then. I'll have to.. DEAL WITH IT. I still miss old J/J when they were actually sending in Koffing to pollute an area and cause chaos like in the first series. The show is a nice to way destress since I barely have time to play games these days! I definitely prefer the sub, for years I've been dealing with "Ash", I like Satoshi much much more.

Building teams in this generation is HARD...¬¬

I'm still on the first island (I already beat the trial though, "grand trial" awaits) and my current team is the next:

-Ollie (Fabiowl... I mean Dartrix)
-Dingo (Pikachu... It took AGES to evolve though)
-Fenrir (Growlithe)
-Hermes (Rufflet)
-Layla (Crabrawler)
-Chemical (Short for Chemical Plant Zone... That awfully gaudy Alola Pattern it will gain upon evolution screams SONIC 2) ("Alolan" Grimer)

Out of those six the only one that has a permanent and guaranteed spot in my final team is... Pikachu (despite my hatred toward them) simply because Alolan Raichu is too good to pass on. Its typing is really good (despite being weak to both Knock Off AND Leech Life), it's fast and hits hard... Not to mention that there aren't that many Electric types better than it on the Alola Dex (Electivire is there... but you can't get it until post game AFAIK).

As for the rest... Maybe Growlithe (I considered having a Salazzle, but getting one will be a pain and I was lucky enough to get one with an attack boosting nature and Intimidate as an ability... but on the other hand until it gets the Fire Stone it will be too frail and I trained one back on my White 2 save...so) and Grimer (Its typing is really good and it actually has moves to take advantage of its physical stats... But its weakness to ground makes reconsider to keep it) could be worth having around on the long term.

And the others well...

-EVERYTHING I said about the owl...still stands, as soon as I find a better Grass type it will be hitting the bench ASAP, the only reason it's still around is that I've yet to find a Sun Stone (I found a Prankster Cottonee, once it evolves to Whimsicott... it will be a massive headache).
-Rufflet has Sheer Force and a nice nature, but it evolves so late in the game that makes me consider if it's worth keeping around for long or not.
-And finally Crabrawler... It learns Water type moves (which is nice) and early access to STAB Brick Break is a blessing (not to mention that both of its abilities are good), but once it evolves... it will be a trainwreck: its typing is HORRIBLE, its stats are meh at best and its way to slow to able to counter anything (a priority move would have helped it GREATLY)... It's like a frailier Darmanitan.

The only thing I know is that want a Golisopod on my team no matter what (Great typing, bulky, hits like a truck, cool looking design) as for the rest... As I'm considering way too many things up to this point (Salazzle, Arcanine, Lycanroc, Mudsdale, Muk, Ninetales, Salamence (assuming I can fin a Bagon on Route 3)...).
This game will give me quite the headache...^^U

Salazzle and Golisopod and are both great. Golisopod just joined and is taking a bit to learn some better moves but can take a hit well. Salazzle as been with me since I caught her back on the second and island and she gets work done! Get that affection up people, for just today I was in a fight with a totem pokemon and its ally, both kept trying to put me to sleep, but Salazzle shrugged off FIVE attempts in a row allowing me beat the totem before finally getting it with the sleep spell.

Right now my team is

Primarina
Magneton
Salazzle
Sylveon (the modest evee I just caught)
Golisopod

Currently the 6th spot is open because I'm trying to catch a Mimikyu

If you any of you guys need some pokemon let me know and Ill see what I can do.
If you have some Bagon over there you would do me one heck of a favour there.
I tried finding one on Route 3 but its catch rate is ridiculously low (1%), and trying to ask for it in the GTS made incredibly salty as there between the people asking Ultra Beasts and Legendaries for it... and the moronic ones that asked...for a Shelgon (really? You can get one by evolving your friggin' Bagon).

If not... Don't worry though, once PokéBank works with Gen VII I'll be able to port myself one to Alola (as I have a few of them between my X and Alpha Sapphire saves).

.P.S.: I got a Mimikyu (or should I say Mimigma? German localization uses different names) and I gotta say that I'm almost tempted to use it...
And Kaijin you are the "Perentie" of this place, IMO.
