Okay, It's been awhile since I played the Ninja Gaiden series, last one I played was Ninja Gaiden Black. But when I heard this game coming for the Wii U, I was set on getting the game. It wasn't too long before I got my hands on it too

Image

So without further delay, let's get started

Intro

Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge is the same, lovable bloody, gorey slice and dice game people loved. With updates on the Wii U version, many were happy with the major improvements compared to the other consoles the game was released for.

Gameplay

Image

With new over the top moves, the gameplay itse;f has improved in terms of combat, allowing for swift attacks and major combos to eliminate (and often obliterate) the unfortunate souls foolish enough to defy your blade. Unlike it's other console counter parts, the AI on the Wii U has been upgraded for more difficulty so that it may better fit for what Ninja Gaiden is truly known for, it's intense difficulty!

There are up to 5 playable characters to chose from, including Ryu, Ayane, Momiji, Kasumi, and the Unknown Ninja for online play. Each character (Except Unknown Ninja which has the same weapons as Ryu) has their own unique set of weapons and abilities.

There are 4 Difficulty levels.

- Hero: is essentially easy mode, allowing newbies to familierize themselves with the game (They'll need it)

- Normal: This is your typical Ninja Gaiden experiance, meaning that somewhere along the lines (Specially boss battles) You'll die a lot, and I mean a lot. Quick timing is needed for this one

- Hard: This difficulty is true to it's name, with higher damage output, you better be blocking and dodging a whole lot, or you'll die quickly and a lot

- Master Ninja: I don't even have to bother explaining, let's just say this difficulty will have you tearing your hair out over and over again from the extreme amounts of frustration you'll build up from dying till you go bald

Graphics

Image

I'm not too anal about graphics, but I will say that the graphics are great, it's especially nice to play on 1080P Definition in order to truly have the experiance of playing the game. Overall, great graphics

Music

There wasn't really any significant sound track that made the game pop or unique, since it mainly focuses on battles and other stuff, the music was good, but not something you'd want to hear over and over again.

Overall Rating

Story: 7-10
Gameplay: 7-10
Graphics: 8-10
Music: 6-10

Overall score: 7.6

Overall, Ninja Gaiden Razor's Edge is a good game, a nice improvement from it's other console cousins, it offer's bolder challenges that can have you at the edge of your seat in both suspense from trying to stay alive, to extreme frustration that makes you as angry as a honey Badger

First time hearing of this game series. Then again I don't keep up on the Wii U since I don't have one..yet. Still it sounds really frustrating from what you are talking about here. I guess after playing so many older games I became tired of the forced deaths (usually because memorization is needed in those games) Nice to hear it can do graphics well, hopefully better than the Wii. ^^

Much better for sure, it's has HDMI capability, but can also connect to standard AVI cables, as well as HD AVI for 1080P resolution

The game itself can be frustrating on higher levels yes. You have no idea how many times I was screaming at the TV from anger, but at the same time, I get over anger like a breeze, so it was no big deal, least for me

That's awesome, can't wait to try out that 1080P on my 62 inch plasma screen (for Smash Bros!).

You, screaming at a TV? That's kinda scary, because you aren't one to anger easily. O_O Though if it's anger compared to saving Donnel over and over (yes, I did growl at the tiny 3DS as Donnel was shot and gutted over and over by weak enemies), I can deal.

The Ninja Gaiden Series have been around since the NES era like now, it was notorious for being one of the most difficult NES games of all time.(Personally, I don't see it since I've made short work out of the originally trilogy when I was around 8.) They eventually got an anthology port to the SNES having all three games together. Only around when the Xbox was a new thing did it get a 3D reboot.

Incidentally, you can find the 3D games available for playstation and Xbox consoles, but this WII-U Ninja Gaiden is the definitive version of 3. You can also find the classic NES ninja gaiden games available on the Virtual Console within E-Shops.

There's also online multiplayer, but I hardly see anyone online I can fight against.

I'm only playing the game so far so I can collect all the the gold scarab collectibles to unlock skills and crap

But boy, the game really is hard, with hordes of enemies practically swarming around you, it's hard to focus on one enemy without another one attacking you from behind

There's a trick to handling swarms and it's a trick you can actually learn in Rurouni Kenshin.

Here's how you do it;

1. Run from the enemies. If they follow you then you are doing this right. The fastest one will come to you first.
2. After you managed to distance yourself from the majority of the enemies, you turn around and pick off the fastest enemy.
3. Once that enemy is down or you think you were able to take down enough, repeat the first two steps until they are all gone.

The principle behind this is that you are forcing your enemies to do one on one fights with you.
