Remember, the original siren of mythology wasn't a very good omen. The wikipedia describes the sirens song to be lulling and gentle, but ultimately ends in an untimely demise.

Hehe...Helios, this is me you are talking to. ^^ I'm very well aware of myths. I'm also aware they weren't monster girls that had sex with men until they died, at most they drowned in the sea, starved to death because their songs were so enchanting, or were eaten alive. Another myth says the sirens were cursed by the Gods for being such amazing singers and had their wings torn off. Their legend isn't happy, I know that. Legend of Mana and SMT helped change the way I view myth creatures and fell in love with monster girls. If I/we remain rooted in these age old myths no evolution will be made.
Anyways, myths doesn't equate to "the only possible thing" to me. If that was true, we wouldn't such amazing stories in this day and age. Evolution is a good thing after all. Humans themselves have their own ugly histories, doesn't mean just because history said they made mistakes means that entire race failed to be decent. I think the same way for sirens and other mythological creatures as well. Myths are pieces of information that can be built upon. Disgaea has to be one of my favorite games, because they hold the myth but make the amazing step of evolving the creatures within. I can go on and on bout movies, cartoons, books, games, etc. that have improved or built upon these myths, but that isn't the purpose of this topic. ^^;
Anyway my comment was meant for the MGQ's take on the siren, not the myth.
