Robocraft

Post by Helios Leinheart »

In light of the incoming complete overhaul of the game, I thought I'd try to get you guys interested in this Free to Play game about building your own robot and battling it.

http://robocraftgame.com/

I've logged 190 hours in Robocraft and that's only with a basic team deathmatch battle mode. Very soon, the game is going to be completely changed to be more like a MOBA with respawning, leveling up, and a base to destroy. Robocraft has been in beta since July, so now we're finally getting to the point where the game is becoming a finished product.

Building a mech is very easy. If you've ever played Minecraft, you'll know exactly what to do here. Sometimes you'll see artistic mechs like the head of Abraham Lincoln or Mario, and sometimes you'll see mechs so awesome that you'll immediately wanna try building that design yourself. Check out some of my screenshots.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/helioslein ... pid=301520

The following is a list of the current weapons and modes of transportation.

---

Wheels
Tank Treads
Hover Pads
Helicopter Blades
Aero Foils
Thrusters
Skis
Spider Legs

---

Small Machine Guns
Rail Guns - (sniper)
Plasma Cannon
Nano Disruptor - (medic gun)
Mega Small Machine Guns
Tesla Coils - (melee weapon)

---

Check the game out sometime.

So... more like Mecha combat, and less Robot Wars/Battlebots?

I can't legit say mech combat because making a bi-pedal walking mech isn't possible. Yet...There's a huge list of planned additions on the forums.

Also, I forgot to add spider legs to the modes of transportation. Yes, they do let you climb up walls.

Who said mech combat needed to require bipedal locomotion?

Ah yes, robocraft, one of my favourites. It is always cool to see what awesome designs other people can come up with. (that Abe head looks amazing ^^)
10/10 would play again.

Speaking of artistic bots, this is one i cooked up a few days ago:

That is pretty damn cool. You don't really see stuff like that in Tier 10. Thankfully that's another thing that's going to be fixed in the update. There's going to be a sandbox mode where you can show off your artistic mechs.

I haven't really made anything that qualifies as such, but I do wanna make something from Star Wars eventually.

Scroll down to current codes. Some of them can only be used on the account creation page, so don't miss your chance.

I've started playing recently. With my bad computer, I had to put the resolution lower than the default (thank goodness for that option), because it was a little laggy. It's pretty fun, though I had a little trouble with the controls for the first vehicle they give you. Then again, I'm not used to manually moving the camera all the time. On top of that, turning's a little weird for me, though I might somehow make the controls easier on myself when I figure out the basic requirements for an efficient machine.

I had some pretty creative ideas within the first few seconds of game play. Once I get more familiar with the game itself as well as the physics and options I could use, I'll be able to plan them out.

That looks pretty solid, pretty sleek and nice EP placement on the back rotors too. Those two plasma's on top wont be very useful in high altitudes though, unless you intend to use it as a dive bomber. Also, do i see TX-cubes there? That's some premium stuff.

I'm currently still grinding away to get to Tier 8, maybe try those tesla blades out, seems fun. :)

If you wanna try tesla, you have to play like a ninja. Wait til the rest of your team engages the enemy, scope out who you want to attack from a distance, and then strike. Get out before the enemy can react, rinse and repeat. Obviously they are best suited for hover pads with thrusters.

I see some people with about 15 to 20 tesla blades on the front of their mech and that's all they use.

Yay finally got my hands on a tesla blade, now to make a bot that can use it.^^
I'll have to grind some more though, getting to T8 was no cheap endeavour.

Speaking of T8, here is my main bot, the "Euro Truck Simulator".
Spoiler: show

This right here is the bot i've had the longest so far, and will keep for a long time as well. It started out as a bit of a joke build and i thought i'd scrap it after a few matches, but it did surprisingly well at the time, so i kept it. It was alot slimmer back then though, and used SMG's instead of plasma's.
This right here is the first bot i made in robocraft, the "Landcruiser":
Spoiler: show

I scrapped this one ages ago, though i am thinking of rebuilding it again in a higher tier, for nostalgia's sake.
And another bot i've been using for a while now, the "Medi-Spider"
Spoiler: show

My medic build, a walker that has been equipped with thrusters and ski's, so it can slide along to boost it's speed over long distances, as seen below.

Also, something quite peculiar happened to me today.
In the garage chat I was talking to some other peeps about new technologies and stuff, like laser weapons, powered exoskeletons and whatnot, and I brought up 3d holograms.
Then this fellow mentions that the first real application for it would come from japan for 3d eroge's and whatnot. (wich it totally would, btw)
He goes on with the "would you like dinner, a bath, or me?" trope, on wich I add with the "naked apron" trope.
Then he goes: "Nah. Light bondage gear"
I reply: "I like the way you're thinking", as a little joke. (like I always do :P)
Then he went into how he also was into bdsm, since he must've assumed i was.
I clarified I actually wasn't, but that I could see the appeal of it.

And after that we got into a conversation about the whole BDSM culture (mostly him talking and me going "uh-huh, interesting, I see" etc.), where it came from, what different kinds there are, how he's been involved with it since his youth and how he's progressed from sub to dom, and lots more.
Now, BDSM isn't realy my thing, but nevertheless I found it very interesing to listen to, and realize how big it actually is. Just goes to show the different kind of people that play games like these, wich you would normally write off as just another username. Overall I found it a very interesting experience.

So i friended him, and we platooned a bit after that, but since i had no readily available T3 bot, i had to whip one up real quick, and needless to say, it didn't perform too well..... :^^;:

Though i'm not keen on double posting, i just felt the need to share this one with y'all...
Now, to celebrate monmusu nichijou's anime adaption i decided to make a rather neat artbot.

Yup, that's right, i made Papi in robocraft.^^ (in hindsight the mouth could've been done a bit better though-_-")

I'll probably make more of these, just for the heck of it. Some of the movement types in the game have given me some neat idea's.^^

You're really good at this dude. I just don't have the sense of aesthetics to make humanoid art like that. Nor the patience.

YES I love this game. I've made it to T8 in Premium. I'd post my bots, but they change frequently and are garbage, each and every one. Anyone want to make a Platoon... however that happens?

A platoon is like making a party in WoW. It's temporary. However, the big update should be adding a clan feature.

Post here when you get to T10 and we'll see about teaming up for some games.
