Re: The world of Terra
Ahh I see. (re-reads first paragraph) My mistake, I forgot that they were actually created to live in harsh climates. So a new demihuman isn't a discovery all then okay. They are planned from the beginning then I'd assume, but don't they have to discover the correct combination of genes? Hmm.. Can they be modified for new colors and personalities? How much of their animal instincts do they keep? Were they combined with certain birds (if so, which ones?) or were there just random DNA gene testing experiments? Oh and, how about the failed attempts, were they destroyed or were they dumped in a defective room for further study?

The failed attempts died.
And personality I feel is not something that can be "Programmed", it's something that is as individual as any living being is. It develops as the individual grows. Also only the first couple of generations are "Created" in a lab before it is really self-sustaining, though I imagine there are a couple of random mutations that results in more colorful plumage.
I haven't really picked out any individual bird species to model them after. If anything, I figured stuff like hawks and the like would be fitting, but I imagine that can change easily.

Re: The world of Terra
That seems to be a very interesting world. I am wondering that with the distinction between stingers, lamias, arachne, and harpies, is there a sort of vertical social stratification (in other words a caste-like system of society)?

Not really. Social standing comes from what one accomplishes.

I see. I wonder what one's accomplishments would entail seeing as some are relegated to stay in certain places due to their obvious differences biologically. I guess it might be me just being a little cynical of "human" nature, but with stingers being the workhorses and laborers on which the hive cities are built, yet lamias being more of the military-type sort of behooves me to believe in some sort of discrimination due to "species". That or has society grown to a point where everyone understands the functions and roles of everyone so as to know that society can't exist without any one?

The "Jobs" put was more what they were started to do, but they are not restricted in any way as I have said before.

Ah I see, so the world is very integrated then. I guess I'm just pessimistic and see a chance for discrimination even in such an integrated place as this.

There is some, yeah, but name me a culture that doesn't seem to have some individuals who think their way is the best way? The main reason I didn't really mention it is because it's a fairly rare occurance. It's sorta like how the US is *supposed* to have non-discrimination laws.
