Re: Anteal
Greetings whoever may be reading this. Today's update will be about humanoids. They are a separate group of races than mamono. They include humans. Not relevant, you say? Too bad. I'll still post them for the sake of completeness. So, have the profiles for humans and elves.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Human In-universe: Yezer'i (“human” > makra'i lang.), Tharendi (“human/short elf” > shemn lang.)
Type: Humanoid
Family: Elven
Regions: everywhere
Easily the most populous race of Anteal, there is no place in the world that the humans haven't visited. An incredibly diverse people, their tenacity and adaptability has led them to establish themselves and eventually rule the world.
The origins of humans are unclear, though research points to a connection with the elves, a scarce people with relatively little impact. How humans came to be is largely a mystery, though there have several radical and scandalous theories as to the appearance of humans. However, since the First Era, humans have taken over a Mamono-dominated world and built their great empires.
Among Humanoids, humans have the most basic features of an intelligent species. What makes humans as special as Anteal's other species is their adaptability. They can go where others cannot and thrive and are not restricted to any climate.
Humans have many nations around the world, including the Jun, the Makra'i, the Kirin, the Glaceans, the Talipin and the Yarat, to name a few.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elf In-universe: Elv'i (“elves” > makra'i lang.), Rakhli (“elves” > harra-k-akhiet lang.), Yanlin (“elves” > jun lang.)
Type: Humanoid
Family: Elven
Regions: Southern Makra'kje, Kir, Biyan, Anmathir, Upper Urmeth
One of the older races of Anteal, elves are a mysterious species inhabiting various parts of the world. Like humans, the elves' origins are unclear, in fact being an even bigger mystery than that of the humans'.
Elves are most recognizable by their pointed ears. Pointed ears appear on some mamono species as well, which can be a good indicator to the presence of elves in the past. Nowadays they are far less spread out, restricted to only certain regions.
As humanoids, elves have something most other races don't: a sense of magic. Shared to a far lesser extent with humans, this sense allows them to detect concentrations of magical energy.
Before the eras of man, elves had a moderately sized civilization in Southern Makra'kje which was soon decimated by their neighbours, the Stone Lamia. Subsequently they were spread across Anteal as slaves by the Desert Lamias' trade network. In some places, they died out, supplanted by humans, but in others, they managed to form new tribes and survive.
Examples of such tribes are the Vythari of Southern Makra'kje, the Ferfer of Biyan and Alanthiar of Upper Urmeth.

Re: Anteal
I'm not done with the updates, noo...
I'll make good on my promise to add two more lamia profiles.
Here's the first one: the Kirrish Lamia.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In-universe: Nya (self-designation; “we/us” > nya gyalch lang.)
Type: Mamono
Family: Lamia
Regions: Kirrish
Perhaps the physically strongest and by far the largest species of Antealese Lamia, the Lamia of Kirrish have inhabited the northern half of the island for as long as they remember, having been associated with the Beariq Rainforest that dominates that part of Kirrish by overseas foreigners.
Easily the largest species of lamia, the typical Kirrish Lamia measures up to about 15-16 m in length, though, more rarely, much larger specimens have been recorded. A dark olive green covers her serpentine body which features a pattern of large black diamond shapes along her back to which teardrop-like spots on her sides are connected.
In addition to her great strength, the Kirrish Lamia is also able to produce powerful pheromones in her body. Both these features are meant to subdue a vicious lizardman, the usual mating target of the Kirrish Lamia. As such a human would be overwhelmed without effort.
Tribes include the Nya Gyalch, Nya This and the Anapat.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please tell me what you think.

At this rate I'll probably fill this page with my posts...
Here's the other lamia profile...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In-universe: Zenor'i zhen (“Lamia of Zenor” > makra'i lang.)
Type: Mamono
Family: Lamia
Regions: Southern Makra'kje
A very small species of lamia, the Stone Lamia are only found in and around the elven city of Zenor, located in Southern Makra'kje.
Stone Lamias are distinguished from other lamias by the single horn that grows out of their forehead. In addition, the end of a Stone Lamia's spine is studded with a mineral growth known as magicite, though its power has long faded. In the past, this meant that every Stone Lamia had the potential of being a spellcaster, though they were rendered powerless by the mysterious dissapearance of magic from the world. Still, their blue-colored eyes are a reminder of that power.
Originally occupying the southern part of the Voz Desert, their numbers dwindled leaving them with a population in the tens of thousands, centered around the city of Zenor, a northern city of the Vythar Protectorate.

Re: Anteal
So, I made a political map of Anteal. Though I have yet to come up with names for the various countries. I tried averting the Space-filling Empires, and I consider it mostly successful.
The grey areas on the map represent areas that de facto aren't controlled by goverments larger than a village council. Make of that what you will.

Re: Anteal
Wow man, this is really a helluva lot of work, I love your design of different mamono adapted to each region (love the traveler harpy's huge wings and the deer like centaur )
Your world has great potential for stories and I adore the idea of a world entering in some kind industrial revolution phase.
Just a few question:
Where are the lizard folk?
It seems that some mamono spacies are composed by males too, am i right?
Do elves intermix with humans?
Do your mermaids have echolocation?

There are those who would scorn good-natured people. Even if God himself will
not show his face, a heartful person will one day take God's place in
visiting Judgement upon them. This is what is known as "Divine Retribution"

Re: Anteal
I'm glad you took the time to comment and are interested.
The lizardfolk live in the southern portion of Kir(below the equator), the island of Kirrish and parts of Greater Tyrsaye. If you don't know where those are, check the region map on the first page.Hood wrote:Where are the lizard folk?
Actually, no. All mamono species are all-female. Humanoid species (humans, elves, lizardfolk, etc.) however do have males. That's how I categorized them.It seems that some mamono spacies are composed by males too, am i right?
I haven't really thought about that yet. I'm guessing elves tend to keep to themselves even in nations under human rule and behave just like any other minority. Intermixing is possible.Do elves intermix with humans?
Antealese mermaids are more fish-like, rather than dolphin-like, so no.Do your mermaids have echolocation?

Thanks for the answer. But I mean, you have not posted the Lizardfolk race, right?
Are you going to create more mamono species?

Re: Anteal
Hello. Today I'll post some geographical info on Anteal's northern continent: Biyan.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The arctic continent. Biyan counts as Anteal's northern-most landmass, separated from the rest of the great landmass by the Naodan mountain range. The continent is essentially a peninsula with the Naodan mountains to the south with the Arcan and Cang regions beyond that, in rest being surrounded by the North Makra and North Seas.
Being a polar region, much of Biyan is perpetually covered by ice. However, there are patches of land with vegetation, typically tundra along the western coastline, warmed by the World Current passing through the North Sea.
Politically speaking, much of Biyan is unclaimed by any sovereign nation and is mostly uninhabited save for a small population. Natar'kje initially started as a research colony of Makra'kje a century into the Fifth Era, becoming independent after the Crescent War which destroyed the mainland. The first people to reach the North Pole were Kamin Dje Zhartje and his expedition.
The Republic of Menkar also owns territory on Biyan's eastern shores, having looked to expand their fur trade.
In additinon, the Northern Lamia Yusalt tribes inhabit the coast of the North Makra Sea, while the western coast of the continent is inhabited by the Bisata people.

It's a bit rare to hear about lamias in artic regions. But you managed to make that everything have sense. Are you going to introduce more new mamono?

Re: Anteal
Well, I forgot to mention that lamias in the arctic region hibernate during the winter.
Also, yes, I will introduce new mamono. As a matter of fact I just scanned a couple of drawings. But first I will post some info on some military hardware. Because I follow the philosophy of Leave-the-best-for-last.
So, here we have the 2W-20 and 2W-22. The 2W-20 is mainly used as a scouting vehicle owing to its all-terrain capability and 2-wheel drive. It features a minitaurized radome as well as sensors but it is unarmed. A radarless varinat is used as a novel way to deploy mortars. In this case the radome is replaced by an ammo crate carrying the bombs as well as the mortar cannon's components (see lower right of the image).
The 2W-22 is a frontline battle bike. Because of a lack of armor these bikes tend not to be used in head-on assaults, instead being relegated to flanking moves and hit-and-run attacks.
Yeah, it's not my best drawing. I have trouble with perspective.

Re: Anteal
I'll post the two new race profiles tomorrow. Right now I'm going to leave you with this drawing of a fantasy musketeer.
I got inspired from Napoleonic era musketeers who wore those cool tall hats and then I tried to give them an oriental feel. Also their muskets have a dagger-axe for a bayonet.
Specifically, this is a line infantryman of the late period Quan Empire of the Fourth Era. The nation that discovered gunpowder made sure to keep on the bleeding edge of development which allowed it to be the great empire that represented the Fourth Era.I got inspired from Napoleonic era musketeers who wore those cool tall hats and then I tried to give them an oriental feel. Re: Anteal
Adding the Channel Scylla profile. Hope you like her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In-universe: Vansch Ojer (“sea witch” > sentaren lang.)
Type: Mamono
Family: Scylla
Regions: Channel Sea, Intar Gap
The Channel Scylla are an aquatic species of mamono inhabiting the Channel Sea between the great landmass and Kirrish. In addition, a sizeable population also lives in the western part of the Intar Gap between Kirrish and Tarastal.
Being members of the Scylla family, Channel Scylla have the lower body resembling an eight-tentacled octopus, the undersides of these tentacles being lined with gripping suckers. The difference compared to other Scylla is the webbing between the tentacles which extends over most of their length.
Typically, Channel Scylla are solitary creatures living in secluded dwellings, though there are many who live in the underwater cities of the Channel Sea. In the past, they tended to aquire mates, usually tritons, by force. They have the frightening ability to control the minds of others. It's not very powerful, though, as one can avoid their influence by concentrating enough. These days the Channel Scylla consider the control as an unbreakable bond that they establish with their husbands, so they try to convince them to enter it first.
