Prologue
Spoiler: show
"Flint... Flint... FLINT", Said a stern voice from behind me. I turn around in shock to find my mother there upset that I am in my late father's room again looking over his equipment and notes on ruins and sub gates. "How many times do I tell you that you are not to come into this room? There are many dangerous things in this room that can kill you if you are not careful. Get out of your father's room this instant and help me prepare for the day.", my mom continues. Before I was dragged off by my mother, I snuck a few things to look at later.
While I was helping my mother prepare her job at the orphanage downtown, someone was knocking at our door. For a while, she was talking to the person by the door and it got a little intense. By the time I was finished, I went to my mother to see how she's doing. She seemed worried and when tried to ask her what's going on, she said that the orphanage may be closing down if it doesn't pay off the loan. However, it could be paid off if we either give up our home or my father's notes and machines. Apparently, we have three days to come up with the money or a decision will be made, but I overheard that last part. When, I finished trying to comfort her, she went on to the orphanage and tried to put on her best face so no others get worried.
Once she was out of sight, I went back to my father's room. My fathers room was never the neatest room around. It had all sorts of parts and papers scattered about. I searched around the room and found what I needed. Amongst the mess of this room, I found some maps, a right arm part(It's called the Zet Sabre) that has been especially modified to be used even without a POW Suit, a special device meant for pressure pads(it comes in a set), and a jamming device. I quickly changed my clothes and headed out of town to the Ruins my father used to take me to teach me about Ruins and Digging in General.
[3 Hours Later] With a few breaks, I managed to reach the entrance of the Ruins. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't be able to enter these ruins. However, since this isn't a ruin that's commonly known, it's an unlicensed ruin which is open to the public and those who want to train as a digger. Unless you have the right equipment, like me, traversing through these Ruins can be quite dangerous. I took out my dad's Zet Sabre and turned it on. This Zet Sabre is a Right arm part for the POW Suit, but my dad modified it so it doesn't need the POW Suit. The functions of the Zet Sabre is a light sabre in a nut shell. It's not exactly built to end organic life, but it can seriously do a lot of damage to reaverbots. It was mostly used by me whenever we practiced taking down reaverbots while he was still alive. With courage, I took my first few steps into the ruins alone.
Remembering my father's advice on handling digs without Spotters, I kept moving straight to the doors without bothering to fight any reaverbots. Most reaverbots can be avoided all together because they are usually slower than the speed a digger can sport. After plowing through five rooms, I went into the next room which locked behind me. Within the room are two Amistals and some Zakobons ready to make their move. Unfortunately, I need to take out every single reaverbot, otherwise I won't leave the room. This is because the doors in this room are electronically locked by the reaverbots. Since I am seen as an intruder, they locked the room so I can't escape and be forced to fight them until one of us are the remaining ones standing. I went for the Amistals first since they spawn mini floating robots that explode on contact and they keep spawning them until the main Amistals are defeated. After spending 20 minutes trying to take out each Amistal, I made quick work with the Zakobons.(Even without the Zet Sabre, Zakobons are one of the easiest medium size reaverbots defeated. They can even be taken down with a few good kicks in a POW Suit.). As I reap my zenny based rewards, I moved on to the next set of rooms without stopping or wasting my time with the reaverbots in the area. It doesn't take particularly long, but I managed to make it to the room of the refractor. The looked about four feet long, and I think it would be more than enough to cover to pay the loan any interest they could possibly ask for. I walk towards the reflactor, I heard the door behind me open and a set of footsteps coming closer.

As I turn around slowly, I hear a disembodied voice that sounds like it's coming from a phone. "There should be a refractor in this room, can you see it?" said the voice, the stranger in the room gave a calm, but slightly bothered reply "I see it and it's a fairly big one, but there's someone already in the refractor chamber. Oddly enough this kid looks unharmed.".
The stranger walks closer and sets his eyes on me, "Hey kid, don't you know these ruins are dangerous? If you don't get out of this cham-". I quickly interrupt the person, "STOP!!! The floors in this room are filled to the brim with pressure sensitive pads! If you step on one, it will alert the big reaverbot guarding this refractor and a barrier will be erected around this refractor for a day!".
The person stopped it's foot and fell backwards trying, "How do you even know this and how did you get to this chamber unharmed?".
I take a moment to compose myself and replied, "If I tell you how and why, will you let me keep this refractor? I seriously need it for something important. If it will help, I do know of a licensed ruin that should have a bigger refractor that should be accessible to you.".
The digger sat there for a moment thinking about what I've asked of him. As he got back up he flatly replied, "Fine, but you better not be lying about that ruin."
As I start speaking, I struggle not to shed any tears, "My dad was an experienced engineer and a veteran with a digging crew he was with for a long time. Growing my dad would occasionally teach me how to dig and go around ruins. In fact, this particular ruin is where I used to be trained in the most. I know where just about everything is and the fastest route to this room.". After dusting himself, he immediately asked, "What happened to your father?".
I keep a serious face, turned around, and set up a jamming device next to the Pedestal if the refractor. Without leaving my spot, I placed a special unnamed device right beside my feet and turned it on. My total silence gave enough of a strong hint for the digger that something bad happened to my dad. I grabbed the refractor with both my hands and clutched it between both my arms. I took a few steps back and turned around with a sigh of relief that the gadgets my dad made still work and were effective for this situation.
I retraced the steps I made to get to the refractor and in no time, reached the door. "You can find the ruin North-North East from here and it's not that far a trip. There many be still a lot of relics from the past lying there. If I recall correctly, this licensed ruin is of an entry rank. Now if you can excuse me, I need to save my home and an orphanage." As I walk past him saying all of this, he grabs me by the collar suddenly taking greater interest with what I last said. "Why do you need that refactor? Did something happen?", inquired the Digger. I ask him to let go of me and I quickly explained what happened this morning.
The moment he let go, I made a mad dash out of the room and race my way out of the ruin. As I avoid the reaverbots like the plague, footsteps follow behind me pretty fast as I hear shots being fired. It took a little while with carrying this refractor, but I managed to get out of the ruins. I took a moment to catch my breath and noticed there was a van parked in the area. It didn't take long for a person to get out of the van, but I started running straight home with the thoughts of protecting my dad's blueprints, inventions, and findings. After twenty minutes of running, the same van that was parked near the ruin, finally caught up to me. The van approached to the right of me and the front window opened up. The top half of the digger I saw earlier popped out of the window with something to say, "Hey Kid, would you like a ride home? I'm really interested in seeing who this loan was made out to. Something about it just doesn't sit well with me. Don't worry about it, I won't take your refractor, but if my suspicions are correct, you are free to keep it. You could have a promising career as a digger and that refractor could give you just what you need to start out." I thought about it for a second, but my mind flooded with worry about my mom before weighting the risks of accepting help from a stranger. I signaled the okay, and he drove the van onto my left side with an open door. I jumped in, buckled up, and gave directions on how to get home with the refactor still clutched ever so tightly in my arms.

Thirty-Seven Minutes later

Ever since the point of my directions was to just take a straight shot in one direction, there was a dead silence filling the room and the only noise you could hear was the sound of the van racing to the town. Occasionally, the digger would talk to the "disembodied voice" from earlier talking about the situation and briefly mentioning the ruin I mentioned to him. After another thirteen minutes of silence, it was broken by the sounds of explosions and ships flying from different directions. I was near home alright, but it appears to be under pirate attack.
"Can you please leave your refractor here? It will be safer here and I promise it will be returned to you when this is over.", Suddenly said the Digger as we approached a building.
The van parked behind the building and the Digger looked at me, "I would never ask this of a kid, but considering the situation and the fact you were even capable of running a dig by yourself with just a short ranged subweapon, can you get as many innocent people as you can to safety while I fight the pirates?".
Instead of answering his question I replied with total confidence, "Is your crew near by any chance? I know a way to disable any servebots that may be operating some of the machines there. That could take care of most of the obstacles in your way.".
The Digger looked at me in total surprise as a door opened up and footsteps were heading towards me. A few knocks on the window, I looked to my right and there was a woman wanting me to open the door.
"Just leave your refractor here and lets get outside, if you really know how to disable servebots, just tell her. She'll take care of it." Said the Digger as he opened his door.
I left a sigh, hid my refractor so it wouldn't be seen, and got out of the van. "My dad had notes on the way to disable servebots in his room. I just need to head back home briefly to grab the notes. It shouldn't take me long and if you need to know immediately, all I can remember is that it had to do with how they work and operate.", I said this quickly as I started sprinting back home.
I took out my Zet Sabre to be prepared to fight pirates. A pair of draches came racing forward from above me firing scattered shots. Servebots can be seen looting things from the buildings and homes as I made my mad dash home. On my way there, I have been taking out servebots left and right. There weren't many I took out, but I mostly took out the ones that were in my way. I managed to make it to the "home" stretch and noticed there was a some tanks in the area. I took some shattered remains of one of the buildings and chucked it away from my house and hoped those tanks would investigate it. Hiding while carefully watching, waited to see what would happen. To my own luck, they went to check it out. I ran while their backs were turned and made it to my house. I locked it behind me and went straight to my dad's room. I went in I looked around the papers and found some promising things that would help out, I placed the papers in my pocket and quickly checked for anything else that can be used. As I left, I almost stepped on a piece of paper that actually has the spec on the Zetsabre. From what I gather, it's an A Rank Weapon that doesn't worry about an ammo count. However, if it were to be upgraded properly, it's maximum range is about five to seven feet. I placed the note on the desk, and walked out of the door and closed it behind me.
Much to my surprise, one of the tanks returned and has their guns aimed at me. I tried running to it's side and to my own relief it seems the tank can't turn around that well so it led me to an idea. I ran to it's back side and started slash it's back side and wheels. As it was turning around, I kept moving behind it slashing. It took about 2 minutes, but it started to explode. I ran away from the explosion, but barely made it. Out came from the explosion some zenny and a out of commission Servebot. I took the zenny and ran back to that digger's van thinking I was REALLY LUCKY. It took a little while(and some really close calls), but I managed to make it back to the van. The woman wasn't there, but on the windshield was a note saying to climb up the rope ladder to the first flying machine you see.
After waiting a while, I see a fairly large ship that for some reason reminds me of a tropical fish. It hovered towards my direction and out came a rope ladder. Without hesitation, I climb up the rope ladder while the ship. When I got towards the end, I was pulled into the flying machine. When I got up, I noticed there was a winged woman in front of me.
"If I were to guess you're the kid that ventured onto the ruin on his own blind and with just a subweapon and some toys. That's a really dangerous stunt you know. Reaverbots can be both really merciless and relentless. Please try not enter one until you have a POW Suit and a crew of your own.", scolded the woman with concern.
"Apparently, this digging crew doesn't bother to ask the names of people they meet and have extended conversations with.", I said, let out a sigh, then continued, "I managed to get some stuff that would be of benefit from my dad's notes along with the servebot disabling method. I need them back when you're done with it since his gadgets and notes are the only remaining mementos of my dad. Before I forget, my name's Flint Hack. I would say more, but we have more things to concern over.".
"I'm sorry, my name is Anila. I'm the spotter for this crew and a happy sparrow of the Aeronautic Archipelago. You can leave your notes in the workshop that's this way. When it's ready, just take it to the bow. I'd much prefer that we had the execution of the method you speak of at the cockpit." said the winged woman and sent me to a workshop.
I took out my dad's notes and spread them out on the desk in the room. Not long after I finished spreading out the notes, the woman from the van came in and started inspecting the them. She didn't much mind to me and didn't speak even once as she started working. Every now and then she gestured she wanted a certain tool or part, but never said a word. I felt it was a bit creepy and tried not to think much about it. She seemed really absorbed into work she was placing in to the point where it seemed like I didn't even exist to her. Since it was going to take a while or at least look like it going to take some time, I just took a seat and waited for her to finish while I hoped my mom is alright.

Fifteen Minutes Later

Sounds of tools being used and the flying machine flooded the room as I tap my foot, trying to find any rhythm to it. It got pretty boring waiting for the Engineer to finish working on the Method of disabling Servebots. Eventually, I ended up letting my eyes wander around the workshop seeing what was there.
Before I can spot anything particularly interesting the woman signaled me to come over. "Your father left some brilliant notes. You should be proud of his level of craftsmanship. The Serve-Jammer is ready to be used. Just hand it to Anila. She'll know how to use it. I'll hand you your father's notes back when I am finished working on the other goodies you've brought me. With that said, you've picked some really interesting ones to use. Now if you can excuse me, I would like to finish the other 'toys' in peace.", the engineer said as she handed me a small rectangular box with some wires. She dismissed me, and I headed to the bow of the Flying Machine.
As I got closer, I can hear Anila speaking to the digger while she tried her best to keep him in good spirits during this time of crisis. I followed the voice which led me to a door with a window on it. Behind it, was the cockpit which seems to be designed more for a harpy than a normal person. A lot of the devices and instruments in the room all had switches and levers so someone with a harpy kind of body can freely operate and do their spotting and piloting duties with total comfort. I open the door and approached Anila.
"The Serve-Jammer is ready, the engineer is now working on the other 'goodies'. Is it me or is she really creepy?", I said as I try to hand her the box with wires.
"...Yeah, genies that specialize in illusion magic and/or compatible for void based pacts tend to be unsettling at first. They also like scare people on occasion, but they become really friendly when you get to know them...", she explained as she installed the Serve-Jammer.
"...Don't you worry. The orphanage is safe and it looks like people are going there for shelter against the pirates. Your Mother should be safe, especially since more diggers have come to put a stop to those nasty pirates. You can relax now. Why don't you take a look out the window.", she continued as she finished installing the device.
I walked up to the front window and was amazed how lovely the view was in the sky. The flying machines in the area reminded me of a school of fish swimming in the ocean. Dropships were falling in safe areas as pirate meches were getting destroyed in a flowerbed of explosions. An extremely loud screech came from behind me which got me to my knees because of how painfully ear grating it was. After taking my hands out of my ears as the noise died, a lot of pirate machines stopped moving altogether. Not long after that, pirate ships were retreating making it clear of the result. The flying machine I was in, started flying back to where the van was and making it's landing. When It came to a complete stop, I raced out of the flying machine and climbed down the rope ladder. I sat by the van waiting for the digger to come by so I can retrieve my refractor and find out what happened to my mom. Both Anila and the Engineer got out of the flying machine and headed towards the van. The engineer handed me back the notes, and opened the van door so I can get my refractor. I placed the notes in my pockets and clutched the refractor with both hands. Anila and the Engineer thank me for the use of my dad's notes went on to place the van on top of the flying machine with the use of machines.
After a short wait, a representative from the Digger's Guild Branch Office and the digger from before approached me. "Where's my mom? Is she alright?", I inquired with concern.
"I don't know how to tell you this so I'll be frank. Your mother, Tabitha, was captured by pirates.", said the Digger's Guild Rep. I try my hardest to keep a brave face, but it came to no avail. Tears kept falling while I try to wipe it clean.
"Don't fret, we'll make sure your mother will return to you safely and get the McGinty Pirates out of commission. I'll make sure there's a notice within the digger's guild for any digger that's near by to alert more diggers so she's saved.", continued the representative.
"It's a good enough thing I spot you completing a dig by yourself. If I wasn't right that it was only a pirate ploy and helped you back home, I wouldn't have been able to save the day.". chimed in the digger.
"Now don't get a swell head. If it weren't for Flint's bravery and his father's notes. The servebots would have destroyed the town. I heard about some of the inventions his father made and had blue prints for even more, but I never thought they were THAT effective. I'm even more impressed that he was even capable of taking out a tank without getting hurt. I saw him trying to escape the area and was going to help him, but after his feat of courage, I had no doubts he would be able to get to somewhere safe on his own while I took care of getting the towns people to safety." argued the representative.
The digger and the rep continued fighting while I couldn't hold back my sadness any further. I left for home while they were fight and thought back to my happy memories of my mom. I made it back home, place my refractor to someplace safe in my house, got something to eat, and went to my room to cry in my pillow. About an hour after I stopped crying, someone was ringing the door bell of my house.
I ignored the ringing while I tried to calm down, but the ringing turned into loud knocking. Seeing how the person won't leave until I popped my head out of the door, I went to the restroom to wash my face and went straight to the front door. The knocking still continued until I unlocked and started to open the door. The door slammed open in my face and I kinda flew backwards from the force of the impact. As I writhed in pain, a pair of footsteps came closer to me. I quickly brought out the Zet Sabre aimed at the source of the footsteps with my eyes closed and my right hand holding on to my nose.
"WHAT THE FLYING JAKKO DO YOU WANT!? I REALLY AM IN NO MOOD FOR MIITAN HUGGING JERKS!", I bellowed.
"My my, I surprised that Grant and Tabitha's son would have quite the digger's mouth. Does your mother know you talk like this?", asked the male voice in front of me.
"Does YOUR mother know she raised a person that clearly lets a golbesh get the better of him!?", I snapped back as my nose was dripping blood.
"Hey, are you alright!? Will you be okay?", said a concerned female voice that appears to be in front of me.
"I would have been perfectly fine if SOMEONE didn't slam the door in my face.", I replied bitterly. "Now what exactly do you two want? I'm not in any mood for any company right now and now I have to treat a possibly broken nose. So say what you need to say and leave me alone. My mom was just recently captured by pirates not that long ago and I need to figure out what I need to do.", I continued as I try to at the very least fix nose with some pressure.
As I worked on trying to fix my nose, I occasionally was yelling in pain. It took a little work and a sound that sounds similar to cracking knuckles, but I managed to fix one part of it. While I was fixing my nose, the sound of scolding and a someone hitting another person can be heard.
"Uh, I-I see. I'm really sorry for your loss.", said the male voice with some guilt. I finally opened my eyes and see a male digger that looks around my mom's age and what I believed to be an Evathón'Dalá in front of me. After a rather awkward bit of silence, the male digger continued, "How rude of me. Allow me to introduce myself. I was a friend of your Father, Grant, and he was also the engineer of my digging crew before he settled down with Tabitha. You can call me Rob and this is my wife, Himalini. I'm an A rank digger. We were in the area when we heard about the pirate attack and helped out. We actually were planning to pay both you and your mother a visit to see how you two were doing. On our way here, I was stopped by the digger's guild rep about a special request. He told me there was a talented kid that has the markings of becoming a great digger and ask if I can take him to Gear Bump City to become a digger. He continued rambling about it would safer for him to start training and something about keeping some notes safe from pirates. I'm not entirely sure, he seem like quite the motor mouth. Anyway, have you heard about a kid that went into some ruins with just a subweapon with nothing and no one else?". "...Just wait here a moment.", I said as I left the room and retracted the Zet Sabre.
I went to the bathroom to clean my injury and treat it better. It wasn't the best job done, but my nose looks normal again with some bandages on top of it. I went to grab my refractor from hiding and returned to where Rob and Himalini was.
"It was with the Zet Sabre my dad made long ago with some of his trap disabling devices that were designed for common refractor chamber traps on an unlicensed ruin that my dad used to take me to teach me about digging, ruins, subgates while he was still around.", I said flatly as I presented my refractor. Rob dropped his jaw in shock getting a really good, yet disbelieved look at the refractor I produced.
"I'm not handing you this refractor you know. I got it all by myself on the ruins and earned it justly. If you don't believe me, a digger witnessed me come out of the ruins with this refractor unharmed.", I continued as I pulled back my refractor, clutched into both my arms.
"Alright, I get it. You really do have your father's blood in you. I'm impressed. No wonder why the rep asked.", said Rob defensively.
"Why don't you pack up so we take you to the digger's guild island? It will take a few days to reach the island and you might not be able to return home for an extremely long time.", Said Himalini.
"I'm not sure if I even want to go to the digger's guild and take up digging. There's so much I need to do and even if I want to go, I can't let my fathers notes and inventions be left in a state where it can be stolen or taken away by pirates. Those are the only remaining mementos of dad and they need to be safe.", I reply with concern.
"It's better that you come along with us to the Digger's Guild for your sake. Some of Grant's notes contained some good stuff on that can be used quite well against the pirates. If they'll eventually find out you're alive and if they find out you played any part to their defeat, they'll be gunning for you and your father's notes so they can never be used against them. At least in the digger's guild, you can be safe in the company of a continent filled with diggers and their crews. You would also be taught and trained how to fight pirates and a few cool things Grant most likely hasn't taught you about digging and the territory that comes with it.", said Rob who now is showing concern.
I know it's stubborn of me to reject their offer, but I am still too sad and worried what's going on. I feel I'm that I am not ready to leave the only home I know (in the current state it's in). I reply, with a deep yet silent sadness as my shoulders droop. I turn my head and place my refractor back where I had it. As I return back to Rob and Himalini, they looked like they were thinking about something. The moment they saw me, they approached me with something to say.
"Please come with us. I'm sure Tabitha wouldn't mind you coming with us if it means your safety and personally, we would feel terrible if we couldn't at least do this for her and Grant. Tell you what, if it would at least help or make your feel better; If you agree to come to the digger's guild with us, we can bring your Father's Notes and devices with us and ask The Guild Master himself if he can hold onto your Father's Mementos until you are a digger yourself with your own crew. As a bonus, I can tell you stories of Grant when he was an engineer of my crew along with some ones that will make you laugh. I'm sure you must be dying to know more about your father and I know him quite well. Here's one to start things off. I find it a quite a riot. Did you know there were some female pirate crews that had a deep rooted crush on him? In fact, there were a couple times we were saved by one of these crews because they hoped he would date one of them.", said Rob with some amusement in his tone towards the end..
"I don't want to scare you, but if they do find out you were involved in their defeat, they will keep attacking this town until you and your father's notes were no longer in the picture. You would be helping out the town a lot by becoming a digger.", said Himalini.
".........fine.", I said reluctantly. Rob and Himalini's expressions brightened up as I wonder if this is even a good idea. "Why don't we help you get things into order for now and help you get ready for the trip to the digger's guild. That way, you can go without any worry.", said Himalini.
"If possible, lets try to get going tomorrow afternoon. It's better we get moving soon while the pirates try to recuperate from their defeat.", added Rob. The three of us, head to my father's room to clean it up and gather all of his notes and machines together so it's ready for storage.

"So this is what your father has been working at after all these years. I have to say, the state of this room really brings back a lot of memories.", said Rob as he starts picking up notes.
"Even to this day, he never was able to keep a tidy workshop or room.", added Himalini organizing the machines in this room.
"My mom and I usually keep his room in this state to feel like he's still here and to honor his memory.", I replied, looking for a box to hold all the notes as I gathered some notes together.
"I just have to ask. The notes will be easy to pick up and store within a box, but the things my dad made are another story altogether. What are we going to do about the machines and devices that accumulated over the years", I continued while keeping an eye for a box. After five minutes of searching, I found one and placed all the notes I had on me in the box then placed it on a work bench.
"Don't worry about the machines. My POW Suit gives me strength greater than a normal person and if that isn't enough, I have a vacuum sub weapon that can really pull real in some heavy objects.", said Rob flaunting his POW suit. Not long after that, Himalini gave a rap on Rob's head. If I were to guess, she didn't like him trying to show off, but I am not entirely sure. All I am certain about is that his showing off made things even messier.
"Our support car is parked in front of your house, it wouldn't take long to gather the machines to aboard the Flurry, our flying machine.", said Himalini.
It didn't take particularly long to get all the notes in the room into the box and move the machines so they are ready to be put away. I brought Rob and Himalini to the living room for them to sit down. "If you don't mind hanging out here, I need to start packing things up for the 'journey'.", I said as I turn my back to them.
"Do you mind if I borrow your kitchen? Might as well make the most of your remaining groceries since no one will be living here for quite a while.", said Himalini standing up.
" Go nuts. However, anything left should go to the orphanage. They could use it more than us.", I replied. I quickly went to my room and started gathering things I wanted to keep with me. I looked around my room and took some to carefully decide what I want to bring with me. After some careful consideration, I started packing things into a large carrying bag. While I was in the middle of cleaning things up, I can hear noises coming from down stairs. The noise were consistent, but I honestly didn't care about the noise and what it was so I just kept on packing. About an hour after the noise has stopped, I finished packing with the last thing to be packed being a framed photo of my family when everyone was together. I place the bag next to my bed and went back downstairs. When I went back to the living room, I saw Rob sitting on a sofa surprised.
"You didn't take long to pack your things. I figured you would longer than you have to get what you need.", said Rob a little panicked.
"I only have one bag so I had to carefully pick which things I am able to keep with me. All that's left for me to really do is ask someone to look after the house for me until my mom or I returns. Aside from that, I need to check on the orphanage and a few other places before I am ready to leave home.", I replied.
Not long after I finished explaining myself, Himalini came back to the room with her pants backwards. She came in to let us know that dinner is ready. What we had to eat was mostly dishes that apparently are commonplace within the Noir Continent. During the entire meal, everyone was dead silent. After dinner, Rob and Himalini took a the box of my dad's engineering notes and some of the machines with them into the spotters car.
"Since it's getting late, we'll take a portion of your father's things aboard the Flurry to save time for tomorrow. We'll be back tomorrow at noon to pick up you and the rest of the mementos. Why don't you try to get some rest while you can. Things will get really busy tomorrow so it's best to get as much sleep as possible. See you then and please try to cheer up. Tabitha will likely be safe and I am sure she'll be saved.", said Rob as he and Himalini left for the night.
I waved goodbye as the support car drives away. I take a few moment to look outside to really see the aftermath of the pirate attack. After a few minutes, I closed and locked the door and went upstairs to my room laid back as I thinking about the events that took place today. As I think back, I slowly drifting to sleep. Throughout the night I mostly was dreaming about the times when my family was whole. It brought some comfort, but reality hit hard when I woke up this morning.
"Even to this day, he never was able to keep a tidy workshop or room.", added Himalini organizing the machines in this room.

I got out of bed and placed my sheets and pillow in the big bag so everything I wanted to bring with me is there. I left my room and went to the bathroom freshened myself. After some work on my hygiene, I made some breakfast and finished the rest of my morning rituals within the quite house. I moved my bag and my refractor within the living room out of sight, but easy to bring it with me when it's time to go.
I left home and went to a friend of my mother's house hoping they were alright and their home was in tact. After a small trek around the town, I got to my mom's friend's house and had a quick word with her. The conversation was rather brief, but she was kind enough to agree to look after the house until I have returned or my mom is saved and ready to return home. We said our goodbyes and I went straight to the orphanage to let the people there know that I have some food to donate that I'll be handing to the orphanage before I have to make my way to the diggers guild island. When more people saw me in the orphanage, the works felt really guilty while the kids were crying their eyes out. It got really awkward so I snuck out before they can noticed I left to do a few more final "chores" before leaving. Thankfully, they are mostly on my way home.
One of them was the visit the junk shop before leaving while the last major thing I need to do is take one final walk around town to try to burn the image of home into my head. I always wanted to go to the junk shop, but was going to do that when I felt ready to dawn a POW suit on my own terms. Since I have no real choice on the matter, I thought I'd go and get some of my first Buster parts here so I have a real piece of home with me for my future "adventures" while holding some strength of Holstox island. It didn't long to find the local junk shop. The store was called the "Shining Laser". I heard the name was based of a powerful and popular digger subweapon that usually only A and S rank diggers have the money to maintain. I walked through the door and saw many parts throughout the shop, including a gutted out reaverbot that has it's red "eye" in tact. It had a deep air of mystery and wonder that can be seen throughout the store. I walked to the counter and talked to the junk shop guy to see if there's anything I can afford after my little trip within the ruins yesterday and the pirate attack. I made some small talk with the Junk Shop guy and he was surprised to find me in a junk shop. I told him about my venture within the ruins with detail and showed I had zenny to spend. He heard from other diggers that recently had business here yesterday that I played a part on the defeat of the pirates. When I confirmed how I played part in it, he changed his expression slightly and started treating me like I was a digger already. I told him that I wanting to come here before ever becoming a digger so I have a portion of Holstox Island's strength with me when I do my digs officially as a digger. I also told him I'll leaving the island today and since this may be the last time in a long time I'll be around, I wanted to take care of this while I had the chance to. He expressed and appeared really touched about my sentiment. So much, he sheded tears and left the room for a brief moment. Surprised by the junk shop guy's reaction, I wondered if it was a good idea to come to THIS junk shop. The junk shop guy returned with something and his hands. He said to me that I need to do this town proud and to use this to start off.
I asked him what it was and told me, "It's da Omni-Unit. Itsa great busta part for new diggers 'cause it's one of da few buster parts dat juices up all areas of da busta gun. Not many veterans favor it 'cause it only givesa minor boost compared other parts dat do som'ting similar. However, while itsa small boost, dere aren't many busta parts dat have such a balanced and spread out boost. Sadly, parts like dis aren't som'ting new diggers can easily get. Quite da paradox, doncha tink?". I asked how much do I need, but he stopped me and said that your resolve and motivation was so touching that he's giving it to me as a farewell gift and hopes I make good use of it.
I felt bad that I didn't have to pay for it, but he kept insisting that I can keep it. Since I didn't want to leave without paying for something, I asked the junk shop guy if there are any energy canteens for sale. Fortunately, there was and I immediately asked to purchased one and ask for him to enhance it. By that, I mean I asked him to upgrade the limit of the energy canteen so I have enough to drink from it and have more left over for when I need it. Since you can only buy the initial E-Tank without upgrades, diggers have to pay for upgrades in junk shops to extend the size of the E-Tank. After I got a fair size upgraded for my E-Tank and paid for it all, I left with what I hope helps me out when I start digging.
While I was finishing off the remainder of what I needed to do and headed home, I was stopped by a tall woman. She appeared really interested in what I had at hand. I explained what I had with me and why I had it. She simply smiled and introduced herself as Lisa Lockeson, the person that runs this island. She continued to tell me that she wanted to see what can be done to help out this town and also meet the person who contributed the most on ending the recent pirate attack. When she realized I was the person, she thanked me while expressing her gratitude. I explained about what happened to my mom, and what I'll be forced to do so she was brought fully up to speed about the pirate attack details. She frowned and said shes going to see what she can do about getting these pirates arrested and getting my mom saved. After a rather brief and awkward conversation about the state of the own, she gave a wink and said goodbye to me as I headed back home.
In front of my house was Rob and Himalini waiting in front of my house with their support car. As I opened the door, they hailed me and I responded. They got curious about what I had in my hand so I told them about something I wanted to do before actually becoming a digger on my own terms. I also told them about how kind the junk shop guy was. We got the mementos from my fathers in the support car, along with the food that was left in my house(that includes the food Himalini made to be as lunch for the three of us and the food meant for the orphanage.) and my things. I took one final look around the house and made sure everything was in order. With one final look at my mom's empty room, I left home for the final time and closed the door behind me. I told Rob and Himalini the final things I needed to do. They took me around town one last time and as we left, I dropped off the food for the orphanage rather briefly. When we got towards the outskirts, it came much to my surprised that some of the people saw me off and waved goodbye. I waved back as I hear rather random words of encouragement as well as people asking that I do this town of Kiwi proud.
