Rock would make a somehow interesting yet... odd choice, as Rock is not a type that usually blends well with special oriented mons and I can't picture Litten being physical at all.
How about Litten evolving into a cat made of fire and obsidian, possibly justifying a high speed and precision based pokemon like the razor edge of volcanic glass.

Sea lions aren't as associated with ice as seals and walruses either.
Tell that to the Spheal line, which is based after a seal (first stage), a sea lion (middle stage) and a walrus (final stage) and made its debut on a tropical region like Hoenn.

It somehow reminds me of a Liepard... But with the proper stat distribution could actually work, it would be one heck of a glass cannon though.
And Kaijin you are the "Perentie" of this place, IMO.

Anyone else been browsing Pixiv as much as me? Because the Pokemon pictures seem to be exploding out of the woodwork. Mostly of the owl and the cat.

I also notice that the seal mostly shows up in art where all three of them are posing. I guess it's not popular. Possibly because it looks worse than Oshawott.

I don't get why people make such a big deal about "starters" to be honest. Must be some kind of trend?

They're the first pokemon announced and the first pokemon you obtain. They usually set the tone for the region as a whole, in terms of design. For many players, the starter is the pokemon you have with you for the whole game, and the one you feel strongest about by default (again, usually; a lot of people choose to go with self-caught pokemon instead). It gives the playerbase something to connect to before we know anything else about the game, too. Most importantly, it's just about all we know about the game so far, aside from the legendaries whose types still remain an enigma.

As far as marketing, choosing from a pool of three so far in advance also causes people to "pick a side" well before the game's release, hyping the game up higher than it already is. The release is like 6 months away, too, so it also builds excitement and anticipation for what's to come. Gamefreak's marketing department know how to play their cards.

For most people starters will be with them all the way to the end for different reasons: design, usefulness, "obligation" (kinda like Chimchar in D/P/Pl, as the shortage of fire types in Sinnoh kinda forced a lot of people to choose the firebutt monkey)... You name it.
Not everyone ditches their starters at the first choice they get and if you gonna get stuck with a starter for dozens of hours you better choose it carefully.

And...those are the ugliest middle forms I've ever seen for starters... To the point that they make look both Pignite AND Quilladin look good in comparision.
Specially the water one that looks like a cartoon rodent more than a seal.

Hopefully we'll see some badass final forms, but I won't hold my hopes too high on that regard (if some of the starters actually gets some decent dual typing I can give myself as satisfied pretty much).

I follow and pokemon on and off in recent years but for someone who grew up with the originals, I consider Kanto and Joto the only true lines of pokemon. Everything else I feel are more fan made than anything else.

Well, if this turns out to be true then I so called it with Popplio becoming a Water/Fighting type. I won't put stock in the designs for the evos though.

What's the source on those middle evos? Those really look fan-made... Litten is the only one that LOOKS like it might be real.

If that turns out to be true we'll have three starters with awful dual typings.
Water/Fighting is just plain awful with five weaknesses and some of them are quite common types.
Fire/Ground on the other hand is a pretty good dual typing (normally) but it has a huge drawback: quadraweakness to water, which in a region set on a tropical island with water types most likely around every corner means HELL.

Seriously... I hope those leaks are not leaks but hoaxes instead, as it would make two out of three starters NEARLY INVIABLE and I can't consider a Grass/Flying as a reliable choice either...^^U

Well, the one image I got is up in the air at the moment as I'm seeing both retractions and confirmations as to the apperance.

On the other hand, I got an article that backs up the types of the final evolutions.

And I admit, I kind of like the idea of Poppilo going away from the clown route, to strongman, while still keeping the "Circus Performer" thing.

Grass/Flying would allow me to name my Owl after a grass/flying character that I love, so I'd be happy, haha! I'm only competitive in MOBA/FPS games so it's no big deal for me.
