Good thing they didn't though. Glalie already doesn't see much use, if its typing were Ice/Rock it would somehow be even less good.

Here I leave some footage that has been revealed during Hong Kong national Championship, it some some in game action of both Rockruff (I wish it was called Iwanko in the localized versions too...^^U) and Komala... It's not much... but hey, at least is something.

Arcanines in Alola? Can I have a Growlithe as my starter, please?

So may as well post my detailed thoughts on recent pokemon reveals, including the first two below for which we now have english names and lore:

Rockruff: Still think it does well as a puppy pokemon that distinguishes itself pretty well from Growlithe. The bit of lore about it getting wilder as it nears evolution raises hopes that it will become a awesome-looking wolf/werewolf.

Komala: One of the ones I am rather indifferent to. Its not a bad design at all, and I am glad we have a koala pokemon at last. But still it is just another of the myriad "cute small mammal" pokemon and there are a lot I like more than it (Pachirisu, Shaymin and so on). But I gotta admit the bit of lore about it letting go of its precious log pillow to hug the arm of a trainer it really trusts is absolutely endearing. :)

Charjabug: Its a "pupa stage" bug, which I never have strong feelings about. It looking like a battery and being used like one is clever I suppose. That it has a ability that specifically makes one want to use it in double battles makes it sound like its stats may be higher than most pupa pokemon.

Vikavolt: As said before, this is one of my favorite new ones. Awesome looks, awesome typing, useful ability. I get that it is meant to evoke a spaceship like from Gradius but I'm glad it is still noticeably organic in appearance (not that big a fan of the fully artificial-looking pokemon).

Drampa: This is one I was actually close to disliking. I mean it looks silly which is fine, but I was actually off put by how its animation shows it not just being based on an old person, but depicting someone so old and feeble that they literally carry a blanket to keep from getting cold. Its just rather depressing to think about. Its lore though as a protector of children, lover of people, and reading a lot of happy comments and fan art from others about it has warmed me to it a bit. Still doesn't hold a candle to the "cool" dragons like Haxorus of course.

Bruxish: A decently realistic pokemon version of a triggerfish. Can't say I love it but I don't hate it either. It is what it is supposed to be, a creature so garish, surprising and aggressive that it gives others pause about simply being around it.

Cutiefly: Like bruxish it is what it is supposed to be, but what it is supposed to be evokes much warmer feelings. It joins the ranks of Flabebe and Joltic as a very small, very cute pokemon. They really quite perfectly replicated some of the cutest varieties of bee fly into pokemon form, and adding a innocent pureness to the look to make it more Fairy-like.
tumblr_o9ptguvXVb1rl04amo2_1280.jpg
Literally Cutiefly.

The extra lore about it being attracted to human auras is interesting as well, just the thought of these little things flying into homes to visit people is endearing.

Togedemaru: May end up liking this one more than its predecessor Dedenne (who didn't really get given anything aside from cute looks), as it at least has useful abilities. What I am really curious about is if when the anime depicts it will they have it be capable of walking? Its in-game animations (plus its "roly poly" designation) make it seem like it is literally so round and short-limbed that it can only move about by rolling. I mean it could waddle I guess, but I don't think they could make it look right running. I like the added Steel type justification in that not only does it have those spines but that its upper body seems to be covered in metal-infused fur.

Tapu Koko: Its a legendary, has a decent design and useful ability, but its far from being added to my list of favorite legendaries. I do like the whimsical aspects of its lore.

I agree that vikavolt looks great; I think as much as it looks like Gladius, it looks like a cattle-prod or even an electrical clamp just as much, which is a great look for it.

New Pokémon revealed:

Name-> Salandit
Type-> Poison/Fire
Ability-> Corrosion

The ultimate Fairy slayer, now available in reptilian form

The typing is actually really cool... despite the x4 weakness to Ground and it was about time to see it officially implemented (some rom hackers gave the Koffing line the Fire typing in their works... which was a nice touch indeed), even though makes me lose hope in seeing the Litten line becoming part poison its final stage (which I was definitely looking forward to... specially considering that "not so Spheal" can end up becoming part Fairy upon evolution). ^^U

As for its abilty is nice, but I wonder if it isn't a tad too broken though (it's literally able to poison everything... But for some ability induced exceptions like for instance Komala, Snorlax, Zangoose or Gligar or Pokémon that benefit from being poisoned like the Shroomish line or Gliscor).

Just because the seal learns a Fairy-Type move doesn't mean it will be Fairy-Type.

True, although considering that it does and that clowns are most likely to be associated with the fairy type, it doesn't seem impossible.

Yes, just like Mudkip learning Ground type moves won't make it a Ground type or Prinplup learning Steel type moves won't make a Steel type or Braixen learning Psychic type moves won't make it a Psychic type... Oh... wait...

In all seriousness now, I'd like to think that way... But knowing Game Freak... It will be Fairy type, hideous as heck and gaudy to top it off...
There are other type combinations I associate with a seal based pokémon other than Fairy, but oh well... what can we do... Why having a badass looking and intimidating Water/Rock (Fighting or Steel even) elephant seal when we can have Flippers, the clumsy clown seal?.

Or just like how Nidoran can learn Double Kick make them Poison/Fighting. Oh wait it doesn't! Don't base the Pokemon's typing just by what moves they learn. That doesn't cover everything.

Classy of you... Go ahead and laugh all you want.
I'll just step aside as it's pointless to try and debate with someone who can potentially ban you.

Actually that's a pretty good motto

The only thing I have to say in this particular matter is that time will tell.
I just only hope the Litten line gets a decent dual typing on its final form (or remain a pure Fire type) since I can't shake off the feeling that it will end up getting royally screwed compared to the other two.

Two more new pokémon have been leaked in the Japanese magazine CoroCoro:

Kiteruguma: a (supposedly) bear based (it looks more like a racoon to me though) Normal/Fighting type with both Fluffy (yet to be revealed what it does) and Klutz as it abilites.

Mimikkyu: A Ghost/Fairy pokémon with Disguise (yet to be revealed... but I'm pretty much sure that it won't much different from Impostor or Illusion) as its ability.

SOURCE

Typewise those are actually quite nice combinations, but designwise... that bear... ugh... It's supposed to be intimidating, but compare it to other bear mons like Ursaring, Beartic or Pangoro... Heck even a Furret inspires more awe than this. (Hopefully it will have either a solid movepool or a decent BST to make up for it).
The ghost it's kinda cleverly designed though (a fair balanced mixed between cute and creepy).

I don't outright hate the designs, but they aren't appealing to me at all (though Mimikkyu is growing on me, I really hope we can see more of what it looks like underneath the cloth, but that may be a vain hope). As Kaijin indicated, there is just nothing really to the bear. I get that its supposed to look like a plush teddy bear toy (with a odd mix of red panda merged into it), hence no mouth and odd colors, but its not appealing to me at all. I want personality in my pokemon, not a blank expression (Espurr has more life in its looks than this thing).

The extra lore about Mimikkyu is pretty appealing though. Namely they apparently create their Pikachu cosplay based on Pikachu merchandise that was popular 20 years ago *wink wink* and the species mimics Pikachu because they want people to love them as much as Pikachu is loved. Its quite endearing for a Ghost type, and a little sad as apparently people can't look at their real body without getting sick. They just want to be loved but its so hard for them. That problem seems to have already won them a lot of fans.

Edit: And here's a surprise to end the day with, a new trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyIkvadJU1Q

A lot of stuff is revealed or indicated in it, but it goes by fast. From what we can see there is a lot more detail in riding pokemon in general (special saddles, a distinct one for Lapras and Sharpedo each for instance), and a lot of emphasis is placed on the special crystals and super moves that go with them that it seems a wide variety of pokemon will be able to use.

Oh, and a screen from the Battle Royale shows that your character will apparently have the option to remove their hat.

If there is one or two Pokémon I find cute, I'll get it. So far nothing yet. Hoping for a new cute grass/fairy/flying bird type. Yeah I'm odd like that, I like to play to stare at my cute Pokémon and make them kick around the big strong ones. :D Funny though, because when I played Red/Blue, I was the opposite!

You have pretty high standards if Rockruff, Cutiefly, Pikipek, Komala, etc. are not cute enough. :happyness: I'm curious, what is ideally cute for you?

Yeah because a lot of their designs have something going on with their eyes/brows or noses/beaks/snouts that turns me away. Sometimes a pose can divert me too. Swanna's pose, for example, I found to be unflattering because it looks like its putting its wings on its "hips", making it look too aggressive for my liking.

Anyways, to answer your questions I'll give a few examples:

IDEALLY though?

^ The only Pokémon I ever really got strongly attached to. ^_^

Looking at them all, it seems like the theme I have going here is a mix of cheerfulness, grace, and elegance.

Depends heavily on just how it works. Super moves brought about through bonds are certainly a fun idea in theory (even if some of the dances the trainer does to perform them are a bit silly-looking).

It's a tad too early to tell as we literally know (barely) nothing about.
It sounds like an interesting concept... as long as it's not restricted to the starter mons (as it could be an empowered version of the elemental pledges)... and Pikachu (I'm literally sick of that rat getting all the spotlight while other cuter and more useful electric rodents like Raichu or Pachirisu are left to rot... since always).

As for the poses... well... I've always been a huge fan of Ginyu Tokusentai...so...^^U
