GastroFist
...And a new mon leaked...Source
Its typing and abilities are yet to be revealed, the only things known so far are its name (Namakobushi) and that it can apparently send its innards from out of its mouth and use them as fist to hit with... yuck.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
The body shape is very similar to a group of sea cucumbers known as "sea apples." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_apple
Perhaps it will evolve into one of the larger, longer-bodied types of sea cucumber.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
And... More pokémon have been announced:
-Morelull-> Grass/Fairy mushroom mon with Illuminate and Effect Spore and its abilities.
-Yowashi (the fish mon with School form) will be known as Wishiwashi in the English translation.
-Namakobushi (The innards out sea cucumber mon) will be known as Pyukumuku in the English translation and it will be a pure Water type.
New Alolan form confirmed:
-Alolan Raichu-> Now an Electric/Psychic type with Surge Surfer as its ability
-While Marowak will have an Alolan form, Cubone won't... which doesn't have any inch of sense whatsoever...
Sources here and here.

...new trailer
First of all... Team Skull... Where do I start... The grunts' design is like a mix of a high school delinquent and your average low tier grunt from a no budget sentai show, the admin... is a kogal chick and the leader is a Kanji Tatsumi (Persona 4's not so school delinquent with a heart of gold) knock off...
They're simply the worst design wise by far (hey... that has to be an accomplishment of some sort... they managed to beat Flare's epic levels of gaudiness... which I though it was impossible), hopefully the plot will redeem them somehow...
Also Raichu is getting some spotlight? It's really hard to believe... as it has been mistreated for 6 gens in a row in favor of its inferior in every aspect form Pikachu (it's not useful, it got crappy stats, it got scurvy and it gets more and more malnourished by any gen).
I'm not fond of Rai's new look (classic Rai still looks way better), but dang... That dual typing is great (despite going from one weakness to four) and hopefully it will get a stat boost to make it a more special attack oriented (Raichu can be a mixed attacker with its current stats).
I was considering training a Togedemaru... But this form gives me a new headache (Steel hog? Or Psychic chu?).

EDIT: English trailer has been uploaded.

Singular Irregularity
New mon introduced: Turtonator.
-Fire/Dragon (Good typing)
-Shell Armor as its ability (Useful...For Nuzlocke purposes mainly, but still useful)
-New signature move known as Shell Trap (Returns Fire damage if attacked by anything on that turn).
-Doesn't look like a Dragon.
-Its stance is almost a carbon copy of Megaman X6 Rainy Turtloid's
Turtonator's already extinct ancestor

And what caught my eye the most is... Torkoal is to be confirmed in Alola's Dex... Even if it seems to still be forgotten subpar mon.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
And we got a boxing crab now.
Name: Crabrawler
Type: Fighting
Crabrawler is a Boxing Pokémon that really hates to lose. It can be found clinging to buildings with its powerful pincers that also pack a powerful punch, or gathering around trees in search of Berries, its favourite food.

And the mandatory trailer
As for my impressions (despite already giving my two cents about three of them in the past).
-Crabrawler: Its looks are silly... way too silly (specially compared with other river crabs like Crwadaunt and Clauncher) and its typing feel... wrong (which seems a way too common trend for Alolan mons) as Water/Fighting would fit it much better and would cover a pretty empty niche in the Pokédexes... But Iron Fist is a really good ability.
-Sandygast and Palossand: What I said about their designs still stands, it lacks impact, feels silly, uninspired and it would be hated rather than loved if it were introduced in other generation rather than Gen VII, its ability seems to be nice... But it looks like an inferior version of Stamina regardless of how you look at it.
-Stufful: What keeps catching my attention is that it's a quadrupede rather than a bipedal cub mon (like Teddyursa, Cubchoo and Pangoro), other than that... Not much to say about this one, other than its quite cute (unlike its evolution).

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
Crabrawler appears to be based on a coconut crab, a giant relative of land hermit crabs. And just like land hermit crabs (like Dwebble is based on) they are completely terrestrial past the larval stage and will drown if submerged in water, hence no Water typing.
Definitely agree though that it looks too silly, the droopy eye gives it character but I would rather it was more conventionally cool or intimidating. Still better than yet another plain humanoid Fighting type like Sawk so good effort on their part.
The sand castles look better in motion than as art, and their lore is nice (glad they give a reason for the shovels), but I don't think there is any sand castle designed living thing that I would actually like.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
So... Why it isn't part bug then? If it's fitting for the Dwebble evolutionary line, then it would be fitting for One Punch Crab over here...
.P.S.:
.P.S.:
I guess that I must be one of the few madmen that like Sawk (I even got to train one on Pokémon X with more than satisfactory results) and Gen V in general then...Still better than yet another plain humanoid Fighting type like Sawk so good effort on their part.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
Indeed that is the question, it could have reasonably been part Bug (though being bug-like hasn't been a guarantee for getting a Bug typing for a long time).
Oh I like gen 5 in general, Serperior, Eelectross and Scolipede are some of my favorite pokemon period, but I've never been really able to get behind pokemon that have clothes or skin that looks just like clothes (Ralts line gets a pass as their clothes-like parts are more clearly part of them).Kaijin wrote:I guess that I must be one of the few madmen that like Sawk (I even got to train one on Pokémon X with more than satisfactory results) and Gen V in general then...

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
So, we got confirmation that the snorlax line will be in the game in today's Nintendo Direct, as well as a new form for Rattata.
Alolan Rattata- Dark/Normal
"In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, you'll discover Rattata that are different from the Rattata you've met before. Unlike ordinary Rattata, urban areas are Alolan Rattata's main habitat. They are nocturnal and live in nests of several dozen. Alolan Raticate serve as their bosses.
As a countermeasure to the exploding Rattata population in the Alola region, Yungoos were imported and released. To better avoid Yungoos, Rattata changed their preferred environments and circadian rhythms. These adaptations to their new environment led to their changed form.
Alolan Rattata have an excellent aptitude for sniffing out delicious fresh foods in Alola. They pay no attention to foods that aren't fresh."

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
And here I thought that was no absolute way of making Rattata any worse than it actually is (that is not bad per se... just... forgettable).Alolan Rattata- Dark/Normal
Just give it a quadraweakness to Fighting and... solved, you just got the WORST early route derp you can get in an official pokémon game.
Also the abilities are downright awful, and yes... I know that standard Rattatas have Hustle as Hidden Ability but at least they have a good ability such as Guts that made it somewhat useful during early and mid game.
The sad thing? It could have been somewhat decent (like its standard counterpart) if it was pure Dark instead of Normal/Dark.
Also...

So... Snorlax has been sleeping for 20 years and the first thing it does after waking up "a la Gouken" is downright copy Edmond Honda's sumo splash? Okay... You already had Body Slam AND Heavy Slam at your disposal Kabi, but okay... it's your movepool

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
Personally, I think making Rattata part dark is actually very good for it, after all almost half of its level-up moves are dark. And Hustle is actually a pretty good ability. Sure, it gets a 4X weakness to Fighting, but would Rattata and Raticate survive a fighting type move in the first place? Not likely.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
As someone who's used at training Darumakas I can pretty much say otherwise, Hustle is an awful ability (and a bane at Nuzlockes)... Yes, it boosts your attack. But what's the point if your mon is gonna miss moves that should hit 100% of the time? And Hustle is actually a pretty good ability.
The only good thing about Hustle is that the early/mid stage mons that are unlucky enough to have it are guaranteed to have good abilities once they evolve (like Darumaka and the Nidos that get Sheer Force after being mistreated for so many levels or Hydreigon who gets to laugh at Earthquakes after enduring 64 levels of hell).

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
I guess this is personal opinion in this case. And I think 80% is still a good hit rate especially for a 50% Attack boost.Kaijin wrote:As someone who's used at training Darumakas I can pretty much say otherwise, Hustle is an awful ability (and a bane at Nuzlockes)... Also your point about evolved mons trading they're pre-evolution's Hustle for something else makes me wonder if alolan Raticate will keep Hustle or get something else instead? Could be interesting.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
When you're forced to leave your Hustle mon in front because it's the only critter it can cause any damage to whatever you're facing and keeps missing moves over and over again... giving time to the opposing side to set up which in time will inevitably lead to a sweep (competitive)/white out (nuzlocke)... You can't help but wondering: Was it really that good of a trade? And I think 80% is still a good hit rate especially for a 50% Attack boost.
Hustle might be okay for casual gaming experience (unless the mon having it is a Togepi... Why Game Freak? Togepi line is special attacking oriented, it gains no benefits from Hustle), but in situations that you need your moves to actually land... Hustle might do more harm than actual good.
.P.S.: I don't think that Game Freak will give "Glassttata" another ability once it evolves into "Delicate", however it will be hilarious if it regains Guts for whatever reason.

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
I'll admit Hustle isn't that good from a competitive point of view without any planning for it, but as far as its use in battle against NPCs using an X-Accuracy fixes any problem with it. (Or making the hustle mon hold a Wide Lens to lessen its effect.)
Of course some mons can make use of Hustle more than others, Durant is probably the best with it as it also gets access to Hone Claws which makes it VERY powerful if you can set that up. Which will be most of the time against the CPU opponents. (Of course, Durant's other abilities aren't too useful either. Seriously, why did they make Truant its hidden ability?)

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
Delibird has it even worse, besides having a level up movepool of only one move, a dual type that's pretty bad (that quadraweakness to Rock hurts) and having Hustle, it has also two abilities that are basically the same: Vital Spirit and Insomnia (what's the point of giving Insomnia as a hidden ability to a mon that has Vital Spirit as a primary ability?).
.P.S.: Maybe it's just me but I'd rather give items to mon in order to strenghten their good points than lessen their bad ones (IMHO a Wide Lens serves a better purpose when given to a Compound Eyes Galvantula (for instance) than a Hustle Darumaka).

Re: [3DS] Pokemon
Durant does get Entrainement, which changes the target's ability to be the same as the user's but it doesn't get rid of it for Durant so it would still be stuck with one of the worse abilities in the game.Zadocfish wrote:If I'm not mistaken, it's one of the pokemon with a move that switches ability with its opponent...
I mean, the ability makes sense for Slakoth and Slaking to have, as the Japanese name of Truant translates to Lazy which they obviously are. But when have you heard of a lazy ant? (Also Slaking would obviously be overpowered without it.)
