It looks like a certain artist is unable to tell the difference between a Coactrice and a Basilisk...

Re: Basilisk
Actually, if I remember right, they are sometimes considered to be male and female of the same species. I can't remember where I read about it though, so I can't say if its accurate or not.Kaijin wrote:It looks like a certain artist is unable to tell the difference between a Coactrice and a Basilisk...

Re: Basilisk
First time I've ever read that.
Basilisk are often seen as reptilian beings known as "Kings of serpents", while Cocatrices are avian beings with rooster like traits.
It's true that both of them are somehow related since, they're "births" are somehow intertwined... A basilisk is meant to be born from a snake's (or toad) incubated by a hen, while Cocatrices are meant to be born from hens' eggs incubated by snakes (or toads).
At the same time their weaknesses are similar, it's believed that weasels are the only being inmune to the Cocatrice's petrifying glare and weasels' odor are the only crippling (living) weakness that Basilisks have.
Despite being similars, they are two different species.
As for this entry... Is basilisk with a Cocatrice body (basilisks are more reptilian and wingless), since the skills are those of a basilisk: Petrifying/Killing glare + Lethal/Poisionous saliva (technically speaking it should be the breath and not the saliva... but I guess that was a personal artistic freedom that the author allowed himself to take).

Re: Basilisk
Found it, its SMT Imagine's compendium entry for cockatrice, while I don't think they'd write fake stuff I can't say if its true or not. Here's the entry, in case you wanted to read it.
"A monster born from a rooster's egg (or a hen's egg sired by a toad) that is incubated by a snake. It resembles a cross between a chicken and a snake. The Cockatrice is closely related to the Basilisk, and the two are sometimes seen as male and female version of the same creature. Its breath is poison, and those who see or touch it are turned to stone.
The Cockatrice's chicken-like appearance is thought to be a later derivation from word "cock" (rooster) in its name."
And since I forgot to actually comment on the MGQ basilisk here's my thoughts, while her design looks pretty nice I wouldnt want to be anywhere near one, not that it would care about a lowly fusion accident like me.

Re: Basilisk
The abilites are actaully those of a basilisk, Cocatrices usually only get the glare as their main asset.
However other than the male/female (it doesn't make any sense, since it's like saying that gazelles are the female counterpart of buffaloes just because both of them are bovines) thing and the slightly inaccurate skill set is pretty accurate.

Welcome to my point, my friend.Severontous wrote:Well no matter what, THAT is no reptile.
This is a cocatrice with another name, a mean looking, overpowered and somewhat hot one... but still a cocatrice.
.P.S.: I'm kind of curious to see if her CGs include petrification.

Re: Basilisk
As attractive as she is, her naming is wrong, and I have a strong dislike of her modeos operandi.
