Shin Megami Tensei
When you can have Satan himself as a party member, well, what other title than "The most controversial series ever" could you give it?
Unfortunately, it's because of this ballsy design choice that the Megaten games tend to only sell to a core fanbase. They will never be as popular as Final Fantasy, but they will always be rock solid video games.
And of course, we can't forget about Mara. Never ever forget about Mara.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei
Oh geez not Mara...
What sold me to SMT is the fairies and harpies, I hold their Monster designs designs as TOP notch, for both genders. The games are really fun but the grind can be tedious. The story line is very slow paced, but incredibly deep and makes you want thirst for more insight at every cut scene. The game has a decent learning curve when it comes to the elemental system, but POkemon fans should feel right at home. ^_^
I was disapointed with the last two entries on the gameboy DS, the game seems to have took a step backward after offering such amazing games such as Digital Devil and Devil Summoner, Nocture, Persona, etc. Here's hoping they make some more next gen games on the P3!

Re: Shin Megami Tensei
I haven't played too many SMT Titles; Persona Revelations, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment and SMT Devil Survivor make up my list. My favorite would be Devil Survivor, despite having to play it in a somewhat buggy emulator. What drew me to the SMT, beside the great gameplay, were mostly the conspiration theories their plots revolve around, and that sometimes these also revolve around Hackers(I feel impersonated in Atsuro. And I wish that Gemini Aerdan finished translating Soul Hackers.). I wish that there were more translated SMT titles.

I really enjoyed Strange Journey. It's on my list of games to get after I get a DS in the future.
Devil Survivor was just too difficult with the new strategy format. The story though, man it was good.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei
How can you get used to the terrible sound and graphics in SJ? I must be getting too picky..because the lack of animations on the monsters really made it bland for me. It was like an RPG Maker game, attacking static pictures in battles. At least have the pixie wings flap ya know..?Helios Leinheart wrote:I really enjoyed Strange Journey. Dragon Quest started out the same way, and it was hella pops in Japan.Feathers wrote:How can you get used to the terrible sound and graphics in SJ? Re: Shin Megami Tensei
I know..I liked Dragon Quest back then too, especially 4.
After playing Nocturne I expected more from them. That and well I've always been anti-handhelds since it's 25% of a game stuffed in a tiny console. /rant over
Hmm, I should check it out for the story, you sound very intrigued by it. I sure wish I could see my party members though.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei
I think I might actually be getting close to finishing Nocturne. Pity, because my party is powerful as hell. And I even fulfilled my goal of having an all female team.

She may be about 20 levels below the main character, but thanks to the wonder of Mitamas, I am able to keep her stats up to reasonable levels.Feathers wrote:Succubus of course. ^^

And I agree on the silent protagonist. When he turns around to look at something, his eyes are just fierce as hell.

Such a graceful looking bird. Too bad for you though. It looks like it only shows up in Strange Journey.Feathers wrote:Wow, SMT games NEVER cease to amaze me. I just discovered Caladrius, a healing bird with my favorite colors. http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Caladrius
