It's probably because a tanuki statue can mainly be found outside shops in Japan. There's a lot of symbolism in the tanuki, even more than the mannekineko. Something like the big eyes are able to foresee things, the rain hat is supposed to be ability to weather out stormy conditions, the big balls is prosperity, etc. Tanukis are not really merchant deities, but they are well-known as bringers of good luck to merchants.

But nevertheless this one has some cute factor on her, I like that mischievous look on her, really fitting for the animal she's based on (no, I don't get the yandere vibes coming from her that so many people says to get and make them drool in eagerness).
I'll be looking forward to her translation before giving my opinion about her, but the fact that she her name is "Gyobu Tanuki" rather than "Tanuki" leads me to think that it may be a subspecies and more tanukis may appear on the encyclopaedia.
