Pokemon Nicknames

Basically the nature of the thread is simple.

Please share what you give your pokemon as nicknames.

I am sure everyone would be interested in the kind of nickname you would give the pokemon you like to travel with.

Here are some of mine:

Gardevoir - Maya
Pikachu - Deuce
Scyther - Strike

I have a habbit of naming pokemon their japanese name if possible.

Well, I tend to give my pokemon rather weird names, here's a few from my White version.

Lilligant - La Petite (In french it translates to "The small one".)
Braviary - Ventus
Volcarona - Muspel
Throh - Super Asia (Reference to Mobile Fighter G Gundam)

Lets see to name a few from some versions.

Hydreigon:Umbra(Female, so I figure it's fitting)
Garchomp:Depthcharg(Couldn't fill out Depthcharge as the dragon is a bomb but I need to transfer my Diamond DepthCharg still into Black)
Typlosion:Fedora(He's the strongest in my Heartgold group so I named him a term fitting for a boss)
Furret:Vest(He's the second in command and does support)
Duskull:Renegade(Guy is a phantom)
Ralts:Gallant(A guy ralts)
Victini:Victoreem(Genderless I know but the V stands for the handsome Victoreem! Yeah I like Zatch bell so what? Victoreem was boss)

I may do this in the future, but I thought of some funny nicknames for a scyther and a Scizor.

Hmm. Well, the ones that I can remember from all the versions that I own.

Sawk: Bruce (Why? Why not. Reminds me of Bruce Lee anyway.)

Galvantula: Spidey (Like the name Spidey and I think it fits)

Samurott: Musashi (Felt it fit for Samurott)

Archeops: Arch (Best I could come up with for this one)

Lampent: Nova (Lamp with fire, so why not?)

Liligant: Lily (Flower name and it fits her nicely.)

Emboar: Smoke (Thinking smoked ham on this one...that and I was hungry at the time.)

Typhlosion: Red (One of my favorites and one that I consider my signature Pokemon and Red is a name that I really loeve, so he/she gets it.)

Scizor: Reaper (Look at Scizor and tell me that it can't instill the fear of death in an opponent)

Blaziken: Falcon (Blaze kick...Falcon kick...Works for me!)

Feraligatr: Astral (Thinking dragon, but it works out well enough.)

Gengar: Phantom (It's a ghost, so what does one expect?)

For me, the nicknames that I give my pokemon from any version depends entirely on what I think when I look at them...and some are just what I think sounds cool.

I just remembered what I used to nickname any quagsire I caught.

I would either name it Glen or Quagmire for funny yet obvious reasons.

Lillipup - Beard
Patrat - Teemo
Panpour - Walter
Audino - Sona

I don't really nickname mine unless I got a good reason.

Such as this one volbeat in Emerald that decided to troll me by consistantly confusing my pokemon, then using Double-team. Over and over.

Then, after I caught the fucker, and was about to save... battery went out on me.

After that, I calmly set it down, went outside, picked up a big stick, and went apeshit on a log.


Had it not done that, I would've named it "Troller"

I tend to name them if they remind me of something or if I can think of wordplay to use with one. Walter for one was a play on "water" since he is water based. Stuff that I catch just for the sake of catching I never name though. After seeing my Patrat one shot the gym leader's Pansear with bide at level 9, I probably would of named him One Shot, Overpowered, Mini Nuke or something alone the lines..

For me, the nicknames that I give my pokemon from any version depends entirely on what I think when I look at them...and some are just what I think sounds cool.

My thoughts exactly. Some names I've given were cool, like those of Greek gods and Titans. Others were more like puns or short form just because I couldn't think of something good at the time. And some were from various anime I enjoy.

In my Pokemon White version I mostly used Behind The Name for my names, barring one . . .

My starter, an Oshawott (now Samurott), I named Susumu. Why Susumu? Susumu Hirasawa. That and 'Sekai Turbine' makes for a good battlecry VS some of the annoying foes of the game.

However, I did backfire spectacularly well in picking my name for my (female) protagonist for White -- 'Yuu'. I only realized the pun AFTER dialogue started up, and decided to roll with it . . . so, for my White 2 character Miki we have her senpai, Yuu, with her catchphrase "Isshu has issues."

(Because really, it does.)
