[PS3] Ni no Kuni - Wrath of the White Witch

Post by Feathers »

http://ninokunigame.com/index.php
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is an epic tale of a young boy, Oliver, who embarks on a journey to become a master magician and bring back his dead mother from the parallel world of Ni no Kuni. Along the way he encounters some extraordinary characters, many of whom become helpful allies. They guide Oliver as he explores the vast world and learns the magical skills that will make him strong enough to face his most deadly foes, and ultimately survive an encounter with the White Witch herself.

The world of Ni no Kuni actually runs parallel to the real world. Players will be able to travel between the two. Characters who appear in one world appear in the other as well, but with different roles in this unique RPG experience.
If anyone is familiar with Princess Mononoke and Spirited away, they will recognize this game's art style immediately. The game literally looks like a LIVING anime. Is is going to have a "Pokemon style" monster training system, combined with strategic RPG elements. In just a few days (1/23/13) this game is coming to the USA, I'm looking forward to trying it out!

The screenshots alone are worth praise!

Level 5 has never disappointed me so I will definitely be picking up this game.

Mi-Mi-Mi-Miyazaki style art!? On a game!? Amazing!!!

A total must-get. It seems quite a good game. I wonder if the artist simply use Miyazaki's style or if the artist is the Legendary Hayao Miyazaki himself?

Holy Hackers! I had no idea he had worked on games before!

..... Man, the mere idea of a game with a story written by him spells out simply as E.P.I.C.!! Just like the rest of his works.

Well I bought this game, and it's not really what I expected. The monsters are all fairly boring looking (the birds are fat and weak..) and the gameplay is simple. The really only good thing about this game is the level of detail they put into everything, but the story (can you believe it? a weak story?), quests, terrible puns, and grinding really killed it for me. It feels alive, but when it comes to adventuring, it's just not fun (for me anyways).

This game FORCES you to grind, and the grind is terribly boring since MP is hard to keep up and you have to waste time running back to the inn over and over. The world is amazing and charming, but when it boils down to it, there really is nothing to this game BUT the world. Everything is else a huge boring time sink and I have no real reason to keep playing it anymore. I want my $60 back..

I don't think he made the story, I think that it was just his studio that did the character art and world design, which ARE amazing. Everything is very stereotypical and simplistic storywise though. The JPN orchestra music was also good, but in my opinion it was out of place in this type of game.
