Nintendo just recently announced it for the WII-U.
Personally, I wonder if this will be a good idea because of the nature the SMT series take.

Complex stats with rock/paper/scissors tactics. I will be confused about the decision behind this for a long time.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
Wait...what?
I love both the MegaTen and the Fire Emblem series, but absolutely nothing good can come out of this idea...
Mixing two succesful series doesn't mean obtaining a top notch product.
There are too many different concepts, gameplay mechanics and even genres (most MegaTen games are closer to Dungeon Crawlers than your average JRPG) to just make it work without butchering either series or both of them at the same time.
And one last thing...
It truly means it

Re: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
I dunno. There's certainly possibilities here, though my brain currently cannot comprehend just how they twain shall meet, so to speak. And remember Pokemon Conquest... Pokemon + Samurai Warriors in a turn-based strategy was somehow managed.
It feels like they're trying to draw the hardcore gamers/niche gamers to their new system while also giving their casual/younger gamers a game that they can also enjoy. I can see a few possible ways they could manage this (strategy games seem to be the hot spot for crossover titles, oddly enough). The new FE game (which is also represented, according to that trailer) involves, well... undead and heroes from the world's past (which include the various heroes from older games). SMT often has undead has enemies, as well as demons and mythological figures. The heroes (the Lord characters, basically) from the FE games would likely be myth-like in regards to history, given enough time, so that gives a possible method for bringing them into an SMT styled game.
Another way is the merged world method- perhaps someone went ape-shite and jump started a conception before the cycle of the world was complete, at around the same time it happened in the FE world. A new chaos world emerges, and boom. You could have that as an RPG, strategy-RPG, or pretty much anything else.
And I sure as hell hope it doesn't wind up being some strange-ass card game. -_-

I utterly agree with that. I love mustard, and I also love chocolate. But if I mix them, it will most certainly not taste good.Kaijin wrote:I love both the MegaTen and the Fire Emblem series, but absolutely nothing good can come out of this idea...

Probably a fighting game. Except, Arc System Works made Persona 4 Arena. At the end of the trailer, I didn't see anything about Arc System Works. Interesting.

I hope it's a fighter and has demons from STM like Jack Frost and the Pixie. I want to see Jack pwn Ike.

Well, if it's a fighter, then I'd like to see Lethe and Myrr from FE, and perhaps Lilim and Nekomata from SMT.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
Dunno...
If Atlus is the developer of this title (and not just the publisher like it happened with Persona 4 Arena), it will probably be another Dungeon Crawler with RPG elements on it.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
But here's the kicker. The main feature of SMT are the demons. With so many characters in the game, it's reasonable to assume that you will have a party of characters and not demons.Kaijin wrote:Dunno...

So where do the demons come in? One of these games has to get priority here.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
If I had to guess it could end up being Persona style, each character having access to his/her own demon and being able to summon them at will during battles.
When two games/series made by two different companies meet up in a crossover, usually the game that is on its "home turf" is the one heavily influencing the other (for a proof take a look at the (to me at the very least) infamous Street Fighter x Tekken, where the Tekken cast lost more than the 90% of their moveset in order to match those of SFs' cast).

Re: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
According to an article I found this morning, it's gonna be an RPG. Haven't seen anything else, though. At least it won't be a fighting game or a card game (if the article is accurate, that is)!

First fanart of this particular crossover on the internet.
(I thought of uploading it into the amusing pictures thread but it somehow felt more fitting here).
