That's right. There is a final fantasy game that has a creature of Myth present.

[Nintendo] Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Series

Post by Rezeed »

Image The one on the far left is a selkie. A creature of myth that's like a mermaid but with few key differences. For one thing, instead of part fish, they are part seel. They are also capable of taking a human form and walking on land.(There are also a bunch of sad myths, and lore about them as well)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (ファイナルファンタジー クリスタルクロニクル, Fainaru Fantajī Kurisutaru Kuronikuru?) is a 2003 action role-playing game for the Nintendo GameCube. It was published by Nintendo and developed by The Game Designers Studio, a shell corporation for Square Enix's Product Development Division-2. A spin-off of the Final Fantasy series, the game spawned a metaseries of the same name. It was released in Japan on August 8, 2003; in North America on February 9, 2004 and in Europe and Australia on March 12, 2004.

Many new gameplay elements were included in this game, such as real-time fighting, as well as being the first role-playing video game to incorporate GameCube-Game Boy Advance compatibility. The music was composed by Kumi Tanioka. The game was greeted with good reviews overall, with many calling the graphics beautiful and the multiplayer design innovative. Three further Crystal Chronicles games have been released (chronologically, two sequels, one distant prequel, and two more).

About 1/2 their games is cooperative Multiplayer where you can customize the character and select your race as well as for gender.

One the first one you can also name your town and somewhat make up whose a citizen(except a some people who are always there.)

Current Games:
* Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (GameCube) (2003)
* Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (Nintendo DS) (2007)
* Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (WiiWare) (2008)
* Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (Nintendo DS, Wii) (2009)[Has Wifi features where people can play together]
* Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord (WiiWare) (2009)
* Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Wii) (2009)

History:
Spoiler: show
Ring of Fates takes place during the legendary "Golden Age" where all the races lived in peace,[1] and when the Great Crystal—into which "all fates are etched"—protected the people from the "malefic glow of the blood-red moon".[2][3] The world is protected from miasma by the Great Crystal, which uses memories as the source of its protective effect.[4] Rebena Te Ra stands as an illustrious city and capital of the Age.

Thousands of years later, a meteor strikes and fragments the Great Crystal, setting up the events of Crystal Chronicles. In this time, the world is covered in a noxious gas known as "miasma", to which direct exposure can prove fatal to humanoids. Monsters are immune, but towns, villages and other settlements throughout must be protected from the ill effects of miasma by fragments of the Great Crystal, which generate a barrier that miasma cannot penetrate. The crystals' effect last for about a year before they must be recharged with the liquid substance "myrrh" obtained from "myrrh trees". Due to its close proximity to the Meteor's point of impact, Rebena Te Ra is a monster-filled ruins that was rendered as such almost immediately after the Meteor fell. My Life as a King takes place shortly after Crystal Chronicles and portrays the world as free from the effects of miasma as kingdoms are rebuilding.

Years later, the events of Crystal Bearers occur following the apparent extiction of the Yukes in a war with the Lilties who became the world's ruling race. Through the Liltie world order, technology is run by the crystals and magic was made illegal and an arrestable offense, especially in the case of the Crystal Bearers.
Races:
Spoiler: show
The world of Crystal Chronicles is inhabited by four humanoid races: Clavats, Lilties, Selkies, and Yukes.

The Clavats (クラブァト, Kurabato?) are biologically similar to humans and are a very peaceful race.[5] In Crystal Chronicles, Clavats' main advantage in battle is their high defense, they fight with swords, and use shields as their race-exclusive armor. They also wield axes, as seen first in Echoes of Time.

The Lilties (リルティー, Rirutī?) are a proud, stout race of warriors and knights. In the past they ruled the world in an empire,[6] founded off the weapons forged from materials of the Cathurigian mines. The Lilties have a unique, flower-like appearance and are the shortest race in the game—as an adult Lilty is noticeably shorter than most other characters, though they are redesigned for Crystal Bearers to be more human like in size and physique. Of the four races, Lilties are the most powerful with a naturally high attack stat that lets them do heavy damage. In Crystal Chronicles, they take the longest time to cast a spell, equip gauntlets as their race-exclusive armor, and use spears as weapons. Lilties can also use hammers in Ring and Echoes and are use urns for various reasons in Rings. By the events of Crystal Bearers, the Lilties are the dominant race of the world.

Selkies (セルキー, Serukī?) are taller than Lilties, around the same height as Clavats, and usually have silver, blue, yellow or light purple hair. They are a rugged race that dress in furs and stolen goods, and are mostly thieves. They usually put their own interests first and are often scorned by the other tribes.[7] In the past, the Selkies were under the control of the Liltian empire and migrated from their ancestral homes to search for a safer place to live. It is said that they come from the sea. Selkies are the speediest of the races and tend to take enemies down with a hit-and-run tactic. In Crystal Chronicles, Selkies' race-exclusive armor is belts and they use rackets as weapons. In Ring of Fates, Selkies attack with bows are the only species able to double jump. By the events of Crystal Bearers, the Selkies tend to be at odds with the Lilties every so often.

Yukes (ユーク, Yūku?) are tall, slender creatures adept in magic that assume form within suits of armor. Yuke armor tends to have long, feathered, striped arms and small, vestigial wings.[8] Yukes are powerful magic casters, but are weak physical attackers. In Crystal Chronicles, Yukes use hammers as weapons and their race-exclusive armor is helmets. Their "Defend" command in the game is possibly the most useful for Yukes, as it makes them immune to all physical and magical attacks. Yukes can use the "magic needle" ability in Rings and equip spell books as done in Echoes. Prior to the events of Crystal Bearers, the Yukes were seemingly driven into extinction after their crystal was destroyed. Also on "Crystal Bearers" It shows that if Yuke could die if their armor is damaged beyond repair and can enter unpossessed back up bodies in such cases.

(Pertaining to the first game) I heard this game was really good, but what killed it for me was the need for a GBA to use the game's potential. I think it was a get-rich-quick scheme devised by Nintendo to coax more kids into buying one. This really frustrated me and was the beginning of my increasing dislike of Nintendo in general. I think FF CC would have been great if not for this fatal GBA flaw. :( I was not able to play with my friend because I did not have a GBA. The only reason I bought FF CC was to play with a friend. This is something I will never forgive Nintendo for. Having to pay $400 for two GBAs (plus battery costs or adapter costs..) and $50 for the game itself (back then, and no I never paid that much ^^;) JUST TO PLAY multiplayer is just plain ridiculous.

Off topic
Spoiler: show
They pulled a similar scam with the Skyward Sword "Wii plus". *sigh* I know it's under the guise of "evolution", but in today's economy the game developers should not REQUIRE games to have additional "components" just to play a new game, it should be OPTIONAL.
Sorry for the mini rant. ^^;

Don't worry about it. They wanted to used the multi GBA THING so everyone can have their own screen for menu based stuff since that can start to be a bit troublesome if one person has to go to the menu and everyone else is forced to go to the menu with the first person just for something that could be quick.

They essentially fix that with the newer games.

Did they fix it by removing Coop completely? I bought the new FF CC for the Wii and there is no Coop, which saddened me.

Nope. If you look at ring of fate and echoes of time games, they make it so it's multisystemed.

If you play for the DS, you play with more than one DS and I think they do wifi as well.

With the WII, they added wifi and the option to play with their DS counterpart of the same game along with the choice to play with someone that has the game over the net. You can also directly play with someone that has the DS version so you can also play it in the same room while having the wii version present.

I was able to look around and borrow GBA's from friends and I got to live out the full experience. Loved the game to death!
Aside from the initial races you mentioned that you play as, there's several different kinds of creatures in the game.
Feathers, there's harpies in the game. There's also Lamia's (like Maggie from Moschette Manor who's ADORABLE) There's a huge variety but I'm kind of derping out ^^; There's lets plays on youtube that you can see for yourself. Unfortunately the group wasn't all that generous about leaking the individual monster images online -_- A same too, there were some pretty cool ones.

Ah I missed these replies while I was away last year..

Harpies? Guessing they are sword fodder. :? I can't call a game a monster girl game unless the monster girls are somehow involved in my party. >_<

So it order to play it currently I'd need 2 DSes, 1 Wii, and 3 games? Or do I only need 1 Wii, 2 DSes, and 1 Wii Game? I'm confused.

Selkies are a playable race and there are 2 other playable Non-human races.

Here's how it work:

Echoes of Time:
- You can play local multiplayer between the WII and the DS.
- Online Co-op/Multiplayer can work between the WII and the DS.(However, the WII version has to be the host if there's co-op between the Two). It goes up to four people, and it can be the same platform or mixed.

If you are planning to do multiplayer online, you only need one copy of the game(per player). So either the DS version or the WII version will do. However, the WII version has some nicer features that can be worked with.

Rings of Fate:(There's only a DS version)
"In multiplayer mode, players creates their own characters, which remain separate from their single-player characters. However, the characters are visually exact copies of their Story mode counterparts, with the exceptions of the new Selkie female and Lilty male. The Yuke female is an exact copy of the male, modeled after Story mode character Alhanalem. Multiplayer always uses multi-card mode, with each player contributing their own character. It is also possible to play multiplayer mode with only one person." - From Wikipedia

Any Crystal Chronical game for the DS: You actually can play with DSes alone with their own copies. For both Online Coop, and Local Coop.

Echoes of TIme: Online Coop mode(which is the same, but with people over the net) and Multiplayer with that Involves the WII, has to have the WII be the host. So if you are looking for on playing with someone online with your DS, just join parties. If you have the WII, you can be the host or the person joining in.

Echoes of Time and Rings of Fate are two different games, but uses the same engine/battle system/Battle style. Echoes of Time has a WII version and a DS version. They are the same game, but the interfact and controls are slightly different.

The DS version is the same, except the windows are in their own screens and controls slightly in certain ways, aside from that, both versions control well.

By the way, you can change window sizes on the WII version.(I know since I have the WII version)
This is what the WII version looks like:

Ok, so I think I get it now. I need either:

2 Nintendo Wiis and with 2 copies of the FFCC game

or

2 Nintendo Dual Screens with 2 copies of the FFCC game

AKA Mucho Dinero.

Thanks for the explanation.

And no, I don't ever want to play ONLINE, only OFFLINE with LOCAL MULITPLAYER, so I'm pretty much pecked here since I don't have 2 Wii's nor want to buy 2 of the games. Eeesh, what a money sink, I'd be better off buying a VITA. X_X

(If I'm wrong please correct me though.)

You ONLY need your own copy of the game. Why do you need to buy many copies of one game? There's no need.

If you want do Multiplayer/coop on Echoes of time. I am a valid person to do multiplayer with since I have the WII version of the game. That means you only need to have your own copy of the game. The version doesn't matter and if anyone else has the game, they can join in on the fun. That means, only one copy of the game.

The reason it's multipacked is because they refer to each pack as "their own world". It holds the data of the owner's copy of the game. Which means, they can easily be in another part of the story with their own custom characters and such unlike some other person's copy of the game. When one does multiplayer, one player visit another person's world with their stuff. That allows one to give items, help train, help on optional missions, and guide the player through troublesome areas in the game. It's a good alternative to the Computer allies.

In short, for online coop mode in echoes of time, you only need one copy of the game. For Rings of fate, you may only need one copy of the game as well for Local Coop.

The point is, why would YOU need to buy a second copy? Someone you know IRL may have their own copy.

One copy is suffice if you want to play with someone here online. I have my own copy, and I am sure there has to be someone else with Echoes of time. That means, you already have someone you can play this game with.

In anycase, the game is pretty fun single player and it gets more interesting Mutliplayer since it's like single player but you don't need to rely on AI to help you out.(And you can have up to 3 AIs helping you out in battle and you can choose how they go about fighting.)
