Makai Senkei Disgaea

Post by hothead1021 »

The Netherworld, a dwelling where crimes such as Murder, Excessive Violence, Unwanted Destruction, Theft and other things that are considered crimes by humans are considered daily activities. Demons run amuck throughout these worlds, basically doing whatever the heck they want. Just as there are many different planets, there are many different Netherworlds as well, each with the most powerful demon of any Netherworld rules over it as the Overlord. Maaan do I love this series, the Disgaea Series is a tactical strategy RPG game, more often than not your main character is a demon who is/has been an Overlord at one point. there are many different types of troops you can make, each with their own unique abilities, like ghosts recovering a certain amount of magic ability per turn, Dragons being immune to fire and kunoichi being able to attack twice when in peril. however, you need to preform certain conditions to unlock new troops to use, and even unlock better versions of your troops as well.

as for the weapons in the game there are about 8 weapons possible for your troops; Fists, swords, spears, bows, guns, axes, staffs and monster weapons. each of these weapons have weapon masteries where by if a character uses a certain type of weapon for long enough, they gain stat increases for that weapon, and even increased efficiency in stats for that weapon.

another certain trait about Disgaea is the Item world, like your troops in the game your items can level up to, however you have to enter the item world, a randomly generated dungeon with various monsters in there you either have to beat, or reach the end to clear. the further you go, the stronger the enemies, however, if you reach certain checkpoints in the item world, the item you chose will level up as their stats in crease as well, from increasing the damage a weapon can dish out to even increasing the amount of HP an item can heal.

another aspect of the game is that you can potentially lift up troops or enemies. lifting up your troops can let you throw them a certain number of spaces to help move them along, get to tricky places where normal methods would be problematic. another aspect about lifting your allies is that you can stack them on top of each other and actually attack a nearby enemy with the stacked characters taking a turn to whack that enemy senseless, this is a really helpful technique to level weaker characters. lifting up enemies has the specific purpose of throwing them at other enemies and in a sense fusing them together to make stronger enemies for less troops to deal with. one thing to note, the Prinny, a penguin like demon is a special case where if you lift one and throw them, they explode, making them like bomb troops, the higher level the prinny, the more damage the explosion. also the prinnies that get caught in the explosion can also die as well. :XD:

I would like to hear your thoughts about the Disgaea series as a whole, and I encourage you to share your experiences with the games themselves, the good, the bad, and the ugly times as well. and I do apologize for such a long post, there's so much to talk about in this game that I didn't want to leave anything out if I could.

Looking forward to D2 in October.

Also I go for the spin-offs and I love the series. Prinny I can be the Hero and Prinny 2:Operation Panties is one of the hardest Disgaea games I've played so far.

Demons are varied and the humor is so wacky I can't help but laugh when Laharl or Asagi do their thing. Like Adell and Fuka since their one of the more serious characters in their games. Disgaea 2 was the first I played and I haven't got all the endings still. So much to say I'll figure it out next post.

Everyone: There may be spoilers in my post, so read at your own risk. I also have good as well as bad opinions here, so please don't freak out if you don't like them okay?

I have played D1, D2, and D4.
Spoiler: show
I like the wacky humor of the games a lot (most of the time). Laharl, Artina, Flonne, Vyers, Yukimaru, and Valzy are my favorite characters. Favorite units would be the Succubus and the Alraune because they are good at healing. I never had a chance to get an Angel, but I'm sure I would like them as well. My favorite generic demon appearance would be the Archer, she's just so cute, how can anyone not like her? ^_^

I enjoy the character interactions A LOT, even if a story is practically non existent in all their games (not that I mind that). The artwork and voice acting is usually pretty good in English, so I'm not forced to go JP. The ending system gets on my nerves in the older versions because if you accidentally kill an ally you get a bad ending, and that brings me to my next aggravation- ally damage. Friendly fire is a bad concept for an RPG, and I think it should be removed completely.

I dislike the geopanel system because it makes the levels too tedious. I like battles more similar to FF Tactics or Fire Emblem. I never went for the level 9999 thing because it feels like a waste of time to me. I can usually beat the game with only level 50s (in my experience anyway). The item system is bad because you can equip multiple swords or multiple pairs of boots on one person, this never made sense to me. The game never feels like there is any strategic battle elements involved (well, I guess it can be considered sort of a puzzle because of geo panels...). It's just dominate or be dominated (usually by ridiculous geo panel setups). The games weren't hard for me, they were just unfun at times almost mainly because of the geo panels.

As you can see I'm almost split with my opinions on the games. I'm probably not going to get D2 because Flonne is a demon again. I hold a grudge against NIS for making Flonne (Flonezilla is the worst idea for a move ever in my opinion) a Fallen Angel and all the Hell they put her through in the game. Storywise, I also have a grudge on Lamington for being an awful arch angel by setting up Flonne's demise. Vyers is the real hero in D1 in my opinion.

I STILL love the series though, don't get me wrong! It just has some things that I dislike, nothing can be perfect I know that, DOODS!
