Okay...after playing through the game. I think it's time for my Review
It's been nearly a week since the release of the much anticipated Pokemon game X and Y. When it hit shelves across the world, many gamestores around the world have been hit hard with die hard pokemon fans to newbie's alike. A game that promises new features and explosive 3D battles! And I myself have found my heart in continuous joy after getting my hands on one myself. So without further adieu, let's get started
Presentation:
As you start the game, you will meet the Professor of the Kalos Region named Professor Sycamore. He introduces you to the world of pokemon. He will of course as tradition of every pokemon game, ask if you are male or female, and even asks what skin color you have (Which is a first in pokemon). After selecting your name and character, you head straight through the shining door of pokemon to awake for your new adventure!
Damn, look at that stylish hair
Gameplay:
The gameplay is similar to the previous Pokemon titles, but with new added features that make the game even more fun than every. Since there are alot of new gameplay features added, I will categorize it in easy to understand order
- PSS
PSS or Player Search System, is a new feature added to Pokemon that let's you interact with nearby friends or strangers through Streepass and if you have an internet connection, with players from all over the world! Interacting with others has never been more accessible than this. Using PSS, you can do the following with your friends
~ Battle: Battle with your friends with negotiated battle conditions
~ Trade: Trade Pokemon with your friends
~ Game Chat: Chat with your friends (Can also be done while battling or trading)
~ Trainer PR Video: View the PR video your friend made (PR video will be explained later)
~ O-Power: Give your friends O-Power's to aid their journey
With Passerby or Acquaintences, you can do the following
~ Battle
~ Trade
~ Trainer PR Video
~ O-Power
With these features, you can trade and battle with people around the world, anytime you please. You may also get challenged by random Passerby's or offered a trade. Some might even want to see your PR Video
- Pokemon-Amie
Pokemon Amie is a new feature that allows you to interact with one of your six Pokemon in your party. You may switch in between which Pokemon you want to play with, during the switch process, there are stats as followed
~ Affection: Tells how much you played with your Pokemon and how much they like you
~ Fullness: Tells how many Poke Puffs you have fed them
~ Enjoyment: Tells how much you've played with your Pokemon
You can pet your Pokemon to increase affection. Depending on where you pet them, they will react in a positive way, or a negative way, so pay close attention when petting them to know just were they like being petted. Feeding them Poke Puffs will also increase their affection for you, each Pokemon has their own taste with 5 types of Poke Puffs
Sweet
Spice
Mint
Citrus
Mocha
Find which Poke Puff they like so they can love you more. You can also play games with them. There are 3 types of games
~ Berry Picker: Where you must give the berry that the Pokemon is thinking of. You must give them the one they like quickly or they'll get impatient and leave. Feed them as many berries as you can before the time limit to get a better score.
~ Head it: Where you must prompt your Pokemon to hit a ball of yarn as they fall, time it right or you'll miss the ball. You must hit as many as you can within the time limit.
~ Tile Puzzle: Where you must reassemble the puzzle tiles into their right place. There is no time limit, but the fast it's done, the higher the score you get.
You may also decorate your Pokemon-Amie to cater to your taste. Accessories are gained through interacting with your Pokemon. You can also leave a Poke Puff there and have other Pokemon from your friends, passerby, or acquaintances eat it. They will leave behind a present for you afterwards and their gifts vary from accessories to exclusive Poke Puffs.
Finally, playing with your Pokemon can also affect their performance in battle. For example, the dialogue for your Pokemon may change during battle. It can also increase their critical hit ratio, and evasion stats as well. The Pokemon may also be able to cure themselves of any status affliction during battle, survive hits that would otherwise cause them to faint, and even give boost to experience gain, and as a little cute bonus, you may pet your Pokemon upon defeating the opposing Pokemon.
- Super Training
Super training is a new, and easier way to raise your Pokemon's EV's (Effort Value). What it does is that it let's your Pokemon play a mini game where they must hit the designated goal with with their soccer ball against balloon Pokemon. Each balloon Pokemon focuses on a certain stat such as Attack or Speed. When you finish the mini game, depending on what stat the Pokemon chose, their base stat's will increase. There are 3 level's that go from increasing your Pokemon's EV's by 4, to 8, to 12. When you have a Pokemon with max EV's, they have access to Secret Super Training. While it does not increase your Pokemon's base stat's. it does give you training bags and items depending on your performance. Items gained vary from Evolution stones to items that can be sold for cash.
-
Mega Evolution
A first for Pokemon, Mega Evolution is a new evolution that only a few select Pokemon may attain, through it, the Pokemon changes both Aesthetically, and stat wise. Their stat's increase a large amount depending on what stat they specialize at. However these evolutions are only temporary and can only be activated during battle, what's more is that only one Pokemon may Mega evolve each battle. So Mega evolution should only be used for emergencies. Pokemon must hold what's called Mega Evolution Stones in order to evolve. A trainer must also have a mega bracelet in order to activate Mega Evolution. A strong Bond with you and your Pokemon is needed to achieve Mega Evolution. There are some Mega Evolution stones that are version exclusive, so getting them all will be difficult.
- Photos
You can take photo's of certain memorable places by a guy named Phil in the game. There you can use the 3DS to take a photo of yourself. You can adjust the camera to focus on you solely, or the back round behind you. After taking a shot, it will be saved on the 3DS camera app. You can also have one Photo displayed on your Game Sync at Global Link
- Trainer PR Video
Trainer PR Video's are 10 second video's that you can create to share with others from around the world to showcase yourself and your Pokemon. You can do multiple things such as different poses, backgrounds, sound effects, music, and many more to make each second of the video unique. You can also dress yourself in more styles solely for your video.
- Trainer Customization
You can now customize yourself in a whole new way, making yourself look unique depending on your fashionable taste. Speaking of, fashion is a very popular trend in Pokemon X and Y, so dressing up in fancy clothing will get you noticed more in the game. Try to purchase as many as you can afford. Some clothes I must say are very expensive. You can also change your hair color, and your eye color as well.
- Horde Battles
Horde Battles are wild encounters with a slew of 5 Pokemon. These Pokemon are levels under normal wild Pokemon to lessen the strain they can give you during battles. In order to catch the Pokemon in these battles, you must first defeat all 4 of the others before catching the last one. Sometimes, there will be different Pokemon in one horde battle, ranging from Tauros and Miltank, to Zangoose and Seviper.
- Sky battles
Sky battle is a new feature added where you can fight trainers in the sky. Only Pokemon that can fly, or have the ability levitate may participate in Sky Battles. These battles other than allowing only Pokemon that can fly are no different from other battles
Graphics:
Graphics in this game is amazing. I really do like the 3D spectacles it offers, but having the 3D on can slow the game down, so I have it off for the most part. The game does shut off 3D in certain places to reduce lag. There are still numerous people I find in the world that still think the graphics are bad. To this I only have one thing to say to them
FUCK YOU ELITIST BASTARDS!
Music:
