LoZ: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons

Post by Rezeed »

Why two games in one thread you ask?

These two games are interlinked by a special password system.

Once you beat the game, you are given a special password.

That password can now be used on the other game you didn't beaten to start a special version of the new file that not only add more content in the game, but also extends the game with an addition intro sequence, extra dungeons, and the true final boss. This in turn gives a special ending you get for beating it with using this special password.

The catch of it all is that you are given a preset name(which was the name used for the completed "other game"). But on the flip side, you are given an extra heart, you get the sword right off the bat, and where you would normally get the sword is a new dungeon altogether.

Oracle of Ages Uses time travel. Oracle of Seasons let you use the seasons at will

Plot and Story of Seasons:(Taken From Wikipedia)
Spoiler: show
Seasons begins as the Triforce calls out to Link from within Hyrule Castle. Link approaches it, and is transported to a dark forest where he encounters a traveling group led by a dancer named Din. After Din welcomes Link to Holodrum, the sky becomes covered in black clouds. A voice from the clouds calls Din the Oracle of Seasons and refers to himself as Onox, General Darkness. A funnel cloud drops from the sky, taking Din into its dark heights. As the tornado dissipates, the seasons of Holodrum fall into disarray and change rapidly.

Din's attendant, Impa, tells Link that they were headed for Hyrule; she instructs him to see the Maku Tree in Horon Village, the capital of Holodrum. Link finds a sword in a cave and makes his way to the tree. The Maku Tree tells Link he will need the eight Essences of Nature and gives him the Gnarled Key, which unlocks the dungeon holding the first Essence. Link retrieves the eight Essences, hidden in eight dungeons throughout Holodrum and Subrosia, and brings them to the Maku Tree. The Maku Tree uses them to create a Huge Maku Seed, a sacred seed that cleanses evil, which allows Link to enter Onox's castle. Link enters the castle and defeats Onox. He rescues Din, who tells him that he is now a true hero and must face a new trial soon(That new trial is the special password mode).Twinrova, watching the scene remotely, states that the Flame of Destruction has been powered by the havoc Onox has wrought.
Plot and Story from Oracle of Ages: (Taken from wikipedia)
Spoiler: show
As with Seasons, the Triforce calls out to Link. Link is transported to a forest in the land of Labrynna, where he hears screaming. In a clearing, Link finds a woman encircled by monsters. When the monsters see Link, they scatter in all directions. The woman is Princess Zelda's nurse, Impa, who asks Link to help her find a singer in the forest. Continuing through the forest, the two find Nayru, a young woman with blue hair singing on a tree stump, surrounded by forest creatures. A shadow emerges from Impa and reveals itself as Veran, Sorceress of Shadows. Veran soars into Nayru's body and possesses her. Nayru was the Oracle of Ages; her abduction causes a disruption in the time flow of Labrynna.

Link receives a sword from Impa and makes his way to the Maku Tree in Lynna City, the capital of Labrynna. The Maku Tree is killed in the past on Veran's orders; Link uses a time portal to travel to the past to prevent this. The Maku Tree tells Link he will need the eight Essences of Time to defeat Veran. Link sets out to retrieve the eight Essences, hidden in eight dungeons throughout Labrynna's past and present. After getting the sixth Essence, Link is told he has the opportunity to save Nayru. He invades Queen Ambi's castle and removes Veran's spirit from Nayru, but Veran then possesses Queen Ambi. Link gathers the remaining Essences and brings them to the Maku Tree, who uses them to create a Huge Maku Seed that allows Link to enter Veran's Black Tower. Link ascends the tower and defeats Veran. He rescues Queen Ambi, and Nayru tells him that all has returned to normal.(The following is when you start a file with the special password) Twinrova, watching the scene remotely, states that Veran has lit the Flame of Sorrow.
These two games hold some elements and guest characters from Ocarina of Time so there is some added fun trying to find them all.

Anyway, feel free to share your own passwords so we can share in the extra fun stuff. I'll share mine once I find my GBA so I can reobtain the password(It's already a completed file, I just have to grab the password)

To help for visuals, either screen cap or write down your passwords.

If you choose to write them down, place each letter and symbol in brackets. You only need to write down the word. That way, we will be able to read it better than trying to do some kind of combination of symbols.(Unless you know the trick on how to actually make the correct symbol appear with one key stroke). Plus, it will be cleaner to read out.

Example: [Left Arrow] [Square] [Club]

Without any further ado, feel free to talk about whatever regarding this game. Even tricks, hints, and asking for advice.

I believe that I already mentioned that in my own way.

Given seasons password, only works on Ages and vice versa.

I DID say the games are interlinked. So that means the passwords only revolved around those two games.

I KNOW it works since I've tried it before and gotten the extra OP.

Edit: On certain guides, they refer these files as a linked game mode. Even if you don't use the cable link. You get the effect either way. Only major difference is that you won't be able to trade rings or get random free rings.

Also, the point of the thread isn't only the password thing. I just thought it would be cool to share them.

Aside from that, it's a normal discussion thread. But I do allow people to ask for help or give random tips and advice.

Man, the Goron and Subrosian dances STILL haunt my memories to this day... at least you can skip the Sub. dance if you have explosives...

But I really loved these games... If I could get them on an emulator or something I'd be all over them again in a heartbeat...

Personally preferred ages, mostly for the mermaid suit and switch hook shenanigans... Also, the animal I got stuck with was that red dinosaur who's name escapes me now... Sigh... I really wish I could play through these games again. I never did get to link my ages before I lost my games...

I believe the name of the red scaley friend we see in ages is named Demitri.

I found the dances fun, but I personally found abusing the rings to be even more fun. Especially the transformation based rings.

(Tengu, heads up. I left a PM that may interest you that's related.)

I forgot to mention this but to find out the secret to your own completed file.

They normally show it when you beat the game, however, if you open your file and check the book that's near Faraore, you will see your secret(meant for it's sister game) written down so you can copy it down anytime you wish.

Okay! Thanks to the awesome gift from Rezzy here I have been playing through these two games again! I've started with ages due to the fact that I have next to no memory of seasons and wanted to keep things fresh(Sorta).

My current progression has me at symmetry village trying to fix this nut thing so the whole place doesn't go up in smoke!

My current heart count is 6.

My animal partner is Moosh the flying bear.

Maple continues to give out nothing interesting.

Neither to the Gasha trees.

And I'm stuck with three quarters of a full heart container... Things are going well I suppose.

Man it took me time but I finally manged to beat both games linked. I was so happy since Orginal for game boy color I had seasons and Onox final fight was a bitch. I liked Ages, level 6 music and dungeon since to me it was the only dungeon that did the whole "Time Travel" thing right.

For those of you that dont know which dungeon that is... its the Mermaid Dungeon! Just listen to that music!

I noticed something rather odd. The two Oracles that got games wear sandals while the other one doesn't. Also Din all the way. Dancer power go!

That's funny, I always figured you would be more into Farore.

Speaking of Oracles. Has anyone noticed that the games seemed to be designed around those two as well.

Seasons is more action oriented and straight-forward with Din representing Power while Ages is more puzzle based and have various ways to take down enemies and puzzles with Nayru representing Wisdom.

Yep, there was supposed to be a third one, with Farore, but it got cancelled. And interestingly, Farore's was supposed to be the one involving time, and Nayru was to have a magic paintbrush, as seen in the below pic.

Hey Rez, I think you got the plot descriptions mixed up. While I've never played the two games, the plot and story for ages sounds more fit for seasons. It also says: "seasons begins as..."
And in the plot and story for Seasons, it says: "as with seasons..."

I could have read it wrong, somehow, too...

You are right. Sorry about the typo. I fixed that. Din is the oracle for Seasons, Nayru is the oracle of Ages.

Onox is the villain for Season, Veran is the villain for Ages. Also, those two games are well worth playing. Seasons is good for the people familiar with zelda, but they also help people understand how things work. Ages is good for people that like more puzzle elements. You play both however to get the full experience and the full story with the Password/Game Link System. Either way, both are fun and they have some nice things going for it.

If you do start playing the games, feel free to post your questions. I will certainly respond with some good answer(since I've beaten both many times), and I know there will be someone that can also help you out.
