Greetings y'all, BR here. As you might (not) know, i like mechs. A lot. I think it's safe to say they're a minor obsession of mine. :?
A while back i wanted to get into making scale models of mechs, but couldn't really get my hands on any. :|
So i decided to make my own designs (without blackjack and hookers, mind you). :lol:
Since it's coming along quite nicely, i wanted to share the results so far. ;)

The first thing i made was this 1:25 scale "Steve". I haven't had the chance to paint it yet though, partly because i'm not sure about wether i'll paint it in the default Steve skin or my own custom skin.

It has some accessories, including a stand, sword, pickaxe, shovel and axe.

This is my main project, a relatively large original design. It's far from finished, but i'm pleased with it's progress.

This is it just after i first started, it was just the inner frame with a crude torso, an arm and a leg. (oh, and the sword too)

And here it is now, i completely replaced the torso with one that has extra movement, and added the waist armor and the left upper leg. I also ditched the old shoulderpiece, since it didn't fit well with the overall design.

Last but not least, i have this little side project, for when i don't feel like working on the big guy.
This one's actually based on one of my favourite mech designs, the Artemis from the OVA series Broken Blade

Time for a quick update.
I got some more work done on the artemis, i added the left arm, and the inner frames for the legs, one of wich is almost done.

The two legs, wich are rather difficult to make, since they have quite a few round surfaces.

All that's left to do now is to finish the legs, then add the skirt armor, some armaments and, finally the head, probably the hardest part of all (wich is why i'm saving it for last :P ). Now that i have gotten this far, i probably won't do much on the other model untill this one is finished.

(I actually put on the left heels while these pics were uploading, but that's for another time. :^^: )

Being a hardcore mech fan myself (Gundam, Armored Core, Front Mission, etc) I'm very Impressed at your level of dedication to this scratch build model. Outstanding craft-work.

The rounded front reminds me of Giacomo's walker from Rise of Legends. Actually it looks like it would make for a good steampunk mech in general shape.

Thanks :) , it's probably because this is the only way to properly bring the designs in my head to life. (since I can't draw for crap, and there's only so much you can do with lego's)

Oh yeah, I remember that one, haven't played the game for a looong time though. (the Land Leviathan is still my favourite :mrgreen: )

Also, I suppose the Artemis is kind of steampunk-ish? It sure 'aint no sci-fi. Basically the people in this world have the ability to physically manipulate quartz crystals, so they can use them in devices like cars, guns, lights, etc. Therefore they're more like giant stone puppets they sit in rather than actual vehicles.

Thanks, these models are indeed hand crafted. For materials i used styrene tubes, strips and sheets, wich I cut, bend, sand and glue into shape.

I chose these tubes because these fit into each other (almost) perfectly, so i can use them for the joints, and the strips because they are just as wide as the bigger tubes. The sheets i used for the Artemis are rather thin (about a quarter millimeter), so they are easier to bend into round shapes.

I haven't done too much on the artemis lately, however i did manage to finish the armaments. (didn't feel like making the other leg just yet) :|

Ladies and gentlemen, i am pleased to announce that the Artemis is (pretty much) finished, now all that remains to be done is to paint it. :info:

Excellent craftsmenship, though me asking. When considering paintjobs, do you use Enamel or Acrylic paint? (Assuming if you've done model painting)

Thanks, though as much as i'd love to do that, making the many curves that make up our demonic damsels is nigh impossible with just sheets, maybe at some point i could try out resin casting. The first gal i'd make would probably be her. On the other hand, i'm currently working out a mech design wich has a Succubus/Lilim motif, as a rival for the big mech i'm making now. ;)

It consists of 6 short movies, and recently they rehashed it into a TV-series that's ongoing right now. (movies are better though) There's also a manga, should you prefer that.

Well, to be honest, i'm a total n00b when it comes to model painting, this is the first time i'm attempting something like this. But to answer your question, i think i'll be going with Enamel, seems easier to work with.

Well, I was once like you regarding painting until I started last May. If anything, just be sure to use a primer prior to painting to ensure the brightness/darkness of your base coat as well as keeping the paint from chipping off over time.
Note: This' me using Games Workshop painting ethics.

Well, for my stuff, I do tend to use enamels myself, and really it depends on what material you're working with, as well as the look you're going with as well as the individual type of paint.

If it's a fairly thin, watery paint, then yes, prime. But if it's a more solid type of paint, then it may not be nessessary. I'd strongly advise that you test the paints first on a spare piece of material to see how the paint acts.

I have yet to buy the actual paints, so i'll have to look into that, i was thinking of giving it a matte finish.

Then make sure you got flats then, otherwise you'll have some gloss to deal with.
