This is an actual fan project made by some people.
It's pretty amazing how well they did on this. Basically, it's just a 3D enhanced version of Sonic 2. Unfortunately, they have only finished the first 3 acts of Emerald Hill zone as far as I know.

This could have easily and perfectly fit in the Sonic's corner...^^U
Anyway... I happened to try the demo and I gotta say that the game so far is looking really lovely. The gameplay mechanics could need a bit of polishing here and there, but still I have a lot of faith on this project.
Fun fact: Did you know that Act 3's theme is actually from Sonic the OVA?
