Re: BRI's workshop
Greetings, fellow TMM'ers.
Today is the day that i've finally gotten around to posting the result of my work throughout the past few weeks, and i must say that i'm rather proud of what it has become.
Without further ado, here i present to you, the Artemis in it's full colours.
Size comparison with a 1 Euro coin.
Some close-ups.
Overall not the best paintjob, but for a first-time attempt it came out pretty nice.
Things like panel lines and/or emblems will be added on a later date.
On a side note, during the painting of the Artemis, i attached the arms of the big mech, so it can actually hold it's rifle now.

Re: BRI's workshop
How does making one go, and what materials do you use?

Re: BRI's workshop
First of all i decide on what it is i want to make, if it's an original i design the parts from memory, and with existing designs like the artemis i use a lot of reference material.Nick115 wrote:How does making one go, and what materials do you use?
For materials i use modelling styrene, a somewhat flexible kind of plastic, wich is available in many different forms, sheets, rods, tubes or strips in all manner of shapes and sizes, to name a few, all available in most model shops.
Then, using those materials i just start crafting. This is mostly a trial-and-error process, where i cut the styrene into the desired shapes. I for example use two tubes that fit closely inside each other to make joints, and add use strips to make the limbs on them.
I usually start with a major bodypart, like the torso, where i just guess how large/small it needs to be, and then scale the other parts accordingly. Curved surfaces like the Artemis' chest armor or shoulderplates are made by bending multiple thin sheets and glueing them together to make one thick piece.
Just on a side note, i recently made a handgun for the big mech (i srsly need to name that guy sometime) and plan on making another so he can dual-wield them. If anyone's interested i could post some step-by-step pics of the building process here, so you can see how i make this stuff.

Re: BRI's workshop
G'day folks, it's BR again.
It's been a while since the last update, i haven't done much modelling for a while due to a rather demanding school project. But the last few weeks i've gotten back in the mood for it, and made some nice thingies.
First of all, i finally have most of the torso finished. It might still need a few small bits here and there, but the overall design isn't going to change anymore.
At some point the lower arm got messed up, so i took this opportunity to redo both lower arms, and make better hands for them.
Top is the old one, bottom is the new.
Furthermore, i made another weapon for it, an assault rifle-ish gun.
Keeping the shoulders movable within the torso was pretty difficult, but right now they work like a charm, wich really helps with some of the firing poses, like the one seen above.
Now i'm probably going to finish off the torso and shoulders, and remake the arm covers, so that the upper body will be done. (except for the head)
Hope y'all like it.

Thanks! I haven't seen that design before, it has a bit of a Bioshock feel to it somehow, is it from somewhere?

It looks like any old Japanese mecha. Unless you were gonna leave those pistons/parts/whatever uncovered/unarmored. There's something about that skeletal look...

Yea it's from my new favorite game, Ar Nosurge, better known for the Ar Tonelico series. His name is Earthes and is basically YOU in the game. Yes, it even has harpies in it (and many other MGs, called "Sharl", though they aren't directly playable.)[BRindustries] wrote:Thanks! Re: BRI's workshop
Yeah, that is pretty much the look i'm going for, there are quite a few influences from the Gundam Seed design style. Skeletal looking mechs are indeed pretty cool, but i myself still prefer the thicker, industrial look. The pistons on the knees and back will remain exposed though, and i might throw in some wires as well, for the mechanical detailed goodness.Observer wrote:It looks like any old Japanese mecha. Re: BRI's workshop
As in you I mean he's a silent protagonist hehe. He's supposed to be your soul connecting to the game from IRL (aka 7th dimension) and controlling the robot body in their world. The game is very serious about it's 4th walling. One of the characters even talks directly through the monitor to you IRL haha, it's so unique.
And nah, I haven't met anyone that can make me laugh like you do with your random comments yet.
I'm not a huge mecha fan myself, only played Xenogears and watched some Gundam Wing at times. I can admire some of the designs though and I always admire hand made crafts, it seems to be a pretty rare talent (compared to the 10000s of writers/artists).

Re: BRI's workshop
That's a clever way of doing it actually, since that's pretty much how it happens.Feathers wrote:As in you I mean he's a silent protagonist hehe. He's supposed to be your soul connecting to the game from IRL (aka 7th dimension) and controlling the robot body in their world.
Heheh, all in a day's work. And nah, I haven't met anyone that can make me laugh like you do with your random comments yet.
Yeah, but to balance it out my writing/drawing skils aren't anything to write home about, so this is pretty much the only way for me to shape my imagination.I can admire some of the designs though and I always admire hand made crafts, it seems to be a pretty rare talent (compared to the 10000s of writers/artists).
Being an engineer(ing student) IRL also ties in with it nicely.

Re: BRI's workshop
Geez, i was just soooo busy at work this week....
So yeah, i basically had very little to do, so i figured i'd draw something instead. (yay for corner desk where no-one can see what you're doing)
It gave me a chance to try my hand at the bog-standard MS-paint, and it's actually quite fun. (the lack of layers is a bit anoying though)
A digital cookie to whoever can guess as to who/what i'm drawing here.

Re: BRI's workshop
Welp, it's taken a long time (like, 8 months or something?), but i finally finished it.
Ladies and gentlemen, i hereby present to you Phantom'77's personal unit: I'm not the best artist (far from it, in fact), and making this was quite a task, but i'm quite proud of how it turned out.
(Also Phantom, i had Juditt fix up the contract so it's entirely paid for with Zauberheim tax money, so it won't cost you a thing. )

It's good! The detailing is really nice. The only improvements would be gradients to make it look more metallic.

Re: BRI's workshop
I totally agree, it's just that i'm not very good with gradients (at all). Plus the program i'm using doesn't have a lot of functionality regarding gradients either. I'm still in the proces of getting more used to it, slowly learning more of the functions and all that. For something i do occasionally it's quite fun.^^Raet wrote:It's good! And like Feathers said, the simplistic coulors have their charm as well. Overall i focused more on the details and correct dimensions rather than the quality. I tried to make it resemble a figure wearing a long cloak, especially with the shape of the flight unit and chest intakes, to fit with Phantom's wandering swordsman theme.^^
