Up until now there was no combination of No Guard + OHKO (it would be plausible to think that a part Ground pokémon like Golett/Golurk should be able to learn Fissure somehow but no... or Karrablast could learn Guillotine but then again no), so it's pretty much a headache to determine how it might work.

Once the 7th gen gets a release all doubts will be cleared (as the No Guard Fissure Machamp will be officially a thing), but for the time being I have to side with the well elaborated mechanics explanation made by Bulbapedia on that one (there's no way in hell I'm gonna believe a one liner of an explanation that could be sumed up as: "Because I say so, now buzz off and leave me be").
And Kaijin you are the "Perentie" of this place, IMO.

I'm pretty sure hackers found out if OHKO moves are effected by No Guard by hacking the move and ability onto one Pokemon so Bulbapedia is most likely correct.

I guess you don't have a Pokémon Bank account, which it's a shame since last year they had a Celebi event which only requirement was having a Pokémon Bank account.

...Speaking of which, new Pokémon Bank event is available: They will give the Hoenn Regi trio if you have an account.
There's time to get'em until October 31st.

Yea I don't pay for Pokebank, not worth since I don't play much. I managed to transfer all my Black Pokémon over before my trial died off though. That's when my Mudkip somehow duplicated my Meloetta. I sure like dem Mudkipz now.

Oh yeah, got a Mew today thanks to a code from someone.

I miss the day where the Grass type starter were reptiles...^^U

Grass/Flying... Not a fan of that typing precisely, too many weaknesses to make it viable IMHO.

So far I like Litten's design the most so far, nice palette, nice design, cat... But something tells me that Alola will be pretty much a region like Hoenn with Water types literally around every corner and picking it will be the game's hard mode so to speak.

As for Popplio... I'm not fond of its design as I find it way too silly looking, but then again I didn't like neither Oshawott's nor Froakie's designs yet I love their final stages' designs (and in Oshawott's line the middle stage too) to the point I picked every time I play Gen V and VI games... So who knows, maybe its final stage will win me over.

.P.S.: It would be nice if that derpy looking seal evolved into something awesome like a colossal Water/Rock (or Steel) Elephant Seal...^^

Ugliest starters yet in my opinion. The Litten isn't bad though. Haha you called it derpy seal too, LOL..! If that ball with a beak and leaf bowtie is a supposed to be a "plant bird", I'm insulted. So many cute birds out there and they pick THAT.

My hopes are rather down after seeing these (mostly) laughable starters though. :( Can't they make anything but fires look good anymore? >.>

It seems to be the most popular out of the three starters in both Pixiv and boorus (despite that the honor of having a gijinka made first belongs to Litten), so they have made something right on this one... I guess ^^U
I'm not fond of its design and it could be a̶ ̶b̶i̶t̶ way more "grassy", but it's tolerable... as long as you overlook its bad double typing that is.

The owl looks amazing, the cat looks great, the seal looks like garbage. The Moon legendary also looks fucking amazing.

I'm really impressed with the owl. It's very simple, but looks undeniably like an owl. I like its typing... if it's defensively focused. I'll be looking forward to seeing the evolutions. That "wtf were they thinking" seal might look great evolved. I guarantee that cat's going to be a Dark-type when it grows up, too.

While the Fire starter may look like it'll have a Dark typing when evolved it might not happen. If they go the route they did with the Gen6 starters, double type advantage, then Litten would evolve to have either Electric, Ice or Rock as it's second type. My money would be on Rock as Electric or Ice would be odd to say the least.

If that proves true, with Grass/Flying and Fire/Rock, then we'd get our second Water/Fighting since Poliwrath that isn't a legendary.

Or I could be completely off my rocker and we get something completely different.

I'll just probably be playing without a starter again, haha. haven't used a starter since Red. My starter was Petalil with perfect stat gains in X though, and she was pretty overpowered haha.

Grass resists Electric type moves (it's the ONLY positive gain Flying gets on said dual typing), so an Electric type move would make neutral damage on Rowlett (aka "flying shaved coconut").
Rock would make a somehow interesting yet... odd choice, as Rock is not a type that usually blends well with special oriented mons and I can't picture Litten being physical at all... Emboar would have made an awesome Fire/Rock, but GameFreak decided to not take advantage of said idea at all.

If I had to guess I would say Fire/Dark, although it can kinda picture it as a Fire/Poison as well (it would be the ultimate Fairy type slayer).

As for Popplio... As long as it doesn't become Water/Ice I'm okay... It's a trope that has been done twice before (Seel and Spheal lines).

Have you seen the other art of Rowlet? It certainly improved its image in my eyes (and it seems to be the most overall loved starter of the trio so far, with many proclaiming its cuteness).

And yeah, some owls do look rather rounded with giant heads.

No worries then, given the tropical theme I seriously doubt it will gain the Ice typing. Sea lions aren't as associated with ice as seals and walruses either.

<><><>

I'm liking the fan theory that Rowlet could end up losing its Flying type (and perhaps gaining another typing) and becoming something like the prehistoric flightless/semi-flightless giant owl that once lived on Cuba, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornimegalonyx. Lines of evidence for this would include:

1. Both are tropical birds from islands.
2. The info on the site refers to Rowlet's powerful legs (despite them being rather short), long, powerful legs being a distinguishing feature of the extinct Cuban owl.
3. Grass starters tend to become more prehistoric in appearance as they evolve.
